When enamel is worn away, or gums recede, the dentine can become exposed, leading to tooth sensitivity with hot and cold foods and drinks. Tooth sensitivity is an ongoing condition and benefits from daily specialist care. Sensodyne is the No.1 dentist recommended brand for sensitive teeth**. If you are getting a lot of sensitivity from one tooth I would recommend you see a dental professional who can exclude any problems with the tooth. They might also be able to offer treatments, depending on the cause of the sensitivity, such as applying a professional varnish, or repairing the tooth with filling material. Any advice I give is without assessing you and doesn’t replace advice given by your own dentist. All Sensodyne toothpastes contain either stannous fluoride or potassium nitrate and are useful if you suffer from sensitive teeth. Can sensitive toothpaste cause sensitive teeth?Anecdotally the treatments work, and there seems to be a lot of evidence from manufacturers, but there is only limited evidence when reviewed independently by the Cochrane Collaboration. Stannous Fluoride This is not a whitening toothpaste. Although, Sensodyne contains stannous fluoride which can lift artificial surface stains on the tooth. However, Sensodyne offers other whitening products designed for those with sensitive teeth. How soon can I expect results? Does the tube stand?Glycerin, PEG-8, Silica, Calcium Sodium Phosphosilicate (NOVAMIN), Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Sodium Methyl Cocoyl Taurate, Sodium Monofluorophosphate, Aroma, Titanium Dioxide, Carbomer, Sodium Saccharin, Limonene Sensodyne Repair & Protect comes in Extra Strength and Cool Gel. These are both fairly strong mint flavors. Sensodyne also has an Original Pink flavor, which is more subtle. Is this a whitening toothpaste? You may want to avoid stannous fluoride containing toothpastes if you are concerned about staining. Generally, stannous fluoride is linked to staining on teeth, also manufacturers claim they can reduce this effect with the correct formulation.
