A direct single DD upgrade from the Salnotes Zero would be something like the Dunu Titan S or Tripowin Olina. The soundstage is wide and spacious with good positioning accuracy but it is mostly expanded in the horizontal axis without any significant depth layering and holographic relief. The level of clarity, airiness and detail retrieval is one of the highlights of the S12 Pro in the midrange area.

The midbass carries sufficient weight, creating a thumpy and enjoyable texture to the overall bass response.There is plenty of energy here and a touch of brilliance but only as much as is needed for giving a shining and luminous character to the sound never crossing the point to harshness and stridency. I want to hear the midrange, but not to wince when the saxophone blurts out, or a voice shout at me (no matter how good the voice is). This is evident when listening to 陆虎’s "雪落下的声音," where the singer's voice appears sibilant at certain parts of the song. For the first time in all my reviews, I don't feel the need to adjust the equalization (EQ) settings for this IEM; it already sounds exceptionally good straight out of the box.

The S12 is a slightly warm and very enjoyable set of earphones that balances its sound signature between sounding reference and musical while retaining good levels of transparency and technicalities. Add in a bit of a thinner mids note weight and you get all the highly detailed and technical aspects that stand out but a bit short when it comes to the overall presentation of the sound. This swappable concept enables the S12 Pro to be paired with a myriad of balanced and single-ended sources. I maintain no affiliations and haven't been requested to provide any particular viewpoint in exchange for these units. There are no steps, no cracks, no bruises, just one smooth surface all over the shell – with a small line between the two parts of the main body.Above all else, the timbrel accuracy, and decay of notes puts the S12 Pros at the top of my list of Planar Magnetic earphones……so far. That rumbling, eyebrow-raising bass in dubstep was never possible with s12 before, although it already had some low end power.

The S12 Pro still suffers from sibilance but is still tolerable and shouting isn’t much of a problem. What happens though is that the timbre is just a touch metallic and artificial while the S12 PRO is not that resolving and refined in the treble as in the mid range. S12 pro has the detail aspect down pat if not bringing a chiseled detailed aspect to its sound but is not exactly realistic. Personally, I like the black narrow bore ones, as the white tips made the treble a bit too much for my preferences. I noticed the slightly subdued bass on the BTR7, but beautifully rendered treble, which required a change of tips and a bit more volume for more bass.I suppose you have to be really into your cable pair ups to fully understand what I am talking about. The Timeless, as alluded to, were the spark plugs that drove the full force of the current planar hype down on our wallets. First of all, S12 has more body and that body is controlled so bass guitar doesn’t bloat in live smooth jazz.
