It centered around Bruce's dilemma about Batman being something he must do. At first, he saw Batman as his obligation to the world, as if it was something he had to do. But at the conclusion of the story, Bruce realized that Batman was a choice that he made and he didn't regret it. While I wasn't crazy about this one (supposedly Batman: Noël has done it better), I did like the final ghost reveal. Last thing i'm going to mention is that all of the great writing comes to life by the exceptional art by Tim Sale. Batman: Haunted Knight - A pretty standard collection of three specials involving Batman foiling supervillain plots on Halloween. Like most Loeb works the characterization is the strongest aspect of these stories but the writing is often repetitive and clunky with dialogue that's a bit wooden. I enjoyed the Alice in Wonderland inspired middle special but not much else was particularly interesting. Sale's art is enjoyable but not as dynamic or cinematic as his later Batman work. 6.5/10 Batman haunted knight - haunted knight is a collection of 3 short stories you could say, one being about scarecrow, one being about mad hatter and commissioner Gordon and the last being about penguin and batman finding out how in the future when he dies no one will care and the name Batman in the future will be useless to everyone.

What is there to say about Long Halloween that hasn't been said? Its a sequel to Miller's Year One that bridges the gap to Batman's modern era. Its moody, its scary, its cool, and I recommend it. Unfortunately it casts a long shadow. And in that shadow, you will find Dark Victory. The two most highly regarded stories, being The Long Halloween and Dark Victory were both strong and competent noirish tales, although I couldn't help but feel they were hampered by the need to continuously include Gotham's superhero-esque characters throughout. The sporadic interspersing of the Batman baddies felt contrived and stale, especially after repeated cameo appearances. Whether Loeb wanted this himself, or editorial constantly forced them in, I don't know, although they would have been much better served on the side lines. I could continue to wax lyrical, although I will leave it there. And that principle holds for The Batman, which unfolds its entire first act on Halloween. Reeves and co-writer Peter Craig use the holiday to reinforce the entire film’s eerie-but-exciting tone. The weather’s starting to chill. Folks are out late in masks and face paint, getting into all kinds of trouble. One jerk even murders the mayor. Everyone in Gotham is restless. In October, those same vibes are already in the air for the audience before they even start watching, adding a layer of fun and immersion that’s certainly less distracting than 3D glasses. I haven’t read these issues since probably 2006 and man were they a great revisit. When I originally read them, I didn’t realize they were part of the fabulous 90s Legends of the Dark Knight series. I remember getting random LotDK issues in middle school and feeling really cool to be able to read this dark and brooding series. That is a series DC desperately needs to reprint.Films that incorporate holidays into their stories are typically meant to tap into a collective seasonal feeling, with the narrative’s biggest impact arriving while the real-life festivities are at their crest. People who enjoy films like National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation at Christmas may still find it funny in June, but it doesn’t hit the same way it does for people who are actively in the midst of stressing out about buying presents and spending time with extended family. The message they were all trying to tell Bruce was unclear and really confusing. Did they want him to stop being Batman? Accept Lucius Fox's offer? What? What does 'leave something for myself' mean?
