The 30mm lens is reasonably sharp, with a bit of blur and falloff in the corners, as is expected with plastic lenses. At f/9.5, everything from about 3′ to infinity is as in focus as it can be, which is sharp enough for most anything, imo. I was way too close to get the bird in focus, but a bit of slider play and contrast adjustments in Capture One made it passable. When you’re out on a walk or hanging out with friends, this is the camera that’ll let you get the photos you want without interrupting. I capture more laughs, cheeky portraits, and street photos with this camera than any other. And that’s just because of how simple it is. Disposable cameras are a ton of fun, but they’re expensive and extremely wasteful. This camera has exactly the same look and feel, but with the ability to change film and try something new. It’s fantastic for both people who know a lot about photography, and those who know nothing at all. I have no problem giving it to strangers to take my cheesy vacation photo, because it’s not worth anything and the photo will inevitably turn out.

You now need to prepare the film for drying. Lift the film spiral out of the tank and pull the end of the film out of the spiral. Securely attach a wooden or plastic film clip to it (to get a tight grip you may have to double over the end of the film) and then hang the film from a hook or nail which should be at least 2 meters / 6ft 6in off the ground. The Harman reusable can make good exposures at night with the flash. Because the camera doesn’t allow you to control the exposure settings, shooting at night without flash is nearly impossible. With the flash, you can expose people and objects between 1-2 meters away. Any object closer than 1 meter will be overexposed and out of focus. But anything further than 2 meters will be underexposed. After this, the camera will re-expose approximately the same frame. This process will take some trial and error, but it can create some fun results! I’ve also created interesting exposures by simply re-running a roll of film through the camera. That method is also unpredictable. Unless you took notes, there’s no way to know exactly what you shot on the previous run through. The key difference between them is that HYPAM is compatible with a hardener while RAPID FIXER is not. As our films are all sufficiently robust, hardeners are typically not required but some people still prefer to use them. Mixing photo chemicalsHowever, Ilford Imaging does produce two very inexpensive cameras, one of which is the Ilfocolor Rapid Retro Single Use Camera. This cheap, disposable camera is loaded with the only color negative film ever produced under the “Ilford” name. The film is rated at ISO 400, and with a fixed focus 31mm f/11 lens and 1/125s shutter speed, the camera (like all disposables) is best used in good light, though it does feature a decent quality flash with a 15-second recycle time. The Harman 35mm camera is a new reusable film camera developed by the wonderful Harman folk (who also look after the Ilford and Kentmere brands in the UK)

An awkward attempt at double exposure. This was done by accidentally re-running the same roll through the Harman Reusable Camera. There is strong distortion closer to the edges of the lens. The edges also lose sharpness and exhibits some vignetting. That just means you have to place the subject in the center of the frame, and use the vignetting to draw attention inwards. While the disposable camera market is dominated by C-41 color film, there are a few options out there for those who prefer the monochrome aesthetic. One of them stands out above the rest: the Kodak Tri-X 400 Single Use Flash Camera. With the Harman Reusable, there’s even less to consider. The only decision you need to make is turning the flash on or off. That’s it. Compose, press the shutter button, wind the film, and get ready to take the next shot. The camera has a fixed shutter speed around 1/120 of a second, 31mm focal length, and an f/10 aperture with a fixed lens that focuses to infinity after 1m. So basically, everything is “in focus,” and the image will almost always turn out if the flash is on — unless you’re trying to photograph a distant object at night. The film developer, stop bath and fixer we recommend for beginners are all liquid concentrate chemistry and as such are easy to prepare. However, we still advise wearing protective glasses and suitable protective clothing.
