Set in Massachusetts in the latter half of the nineteenth century it follows the trials and tribulations of four sisters told through the eyes of Jo (Saoirse Ronan), a feisty young woman who wants to make a life for herself and shuns the social expectations of marriage. For as little as we get of Scanlen as Beth, she does well as a woman trying to come to terms with herself and others when they don’t feel ready to move on. We initially catch with the four sisters of the March after most of them have gone onto live their lives. Of course, the star of the show is Ronan, harboring such determination and emotion in every aspect of family, finance, and love. The entire cast are so very good and the screenplay and the direction make this film not to be missed. Naturally lit scenes remain quite gorgeous with great shadow and definition, allowing details to remain quite strong and not lose touches of texture and detail. For those who have never read the books you will still be able to enjoy the text in its uniqueness whilst enjoying this celebration of Alcott's internal world. Little Women is a 1949 American drama film with script and music taken directly from the earlier 1933 Hepburn version.

There's also a few nice additions about the mercenary marriage market which isn't explicitly talked about in the book but is there in sentiment. Certain scenes bring out such pastel looks or even just a nice blue, green and even wonderfully saturated whites.Saoirse Ronan continues to be this force of a thespian that I’m certain we keep (and might continue to keep) taking for granted.
