It was one of those books that was definitely an all consuming read for me and the perfect winter escape. Overall: This book was beyond wonderful! Loved, loved, loved it! This book has made my top five books of the year! Would highly recommend! We all want to know that our soul mate is somewhere out there just waiting for us to find them. But what if you found him one cold December day and, before you had time to declare your undying love for him, you were parted? Laurie is pretty sure love at first sight doesn't exist. After all, life isn't a scene from the movies, is it? But then, through a misted-up bus window one freezing day, she sees a man she knows instantly is the one. Their eyes meet, there's a moment of pure magic... and then her bus drives away.

I hope I ca Cameron/Cammy: is a man nearing forty who has loved deeply in the past and lost the girl to someone else. He has a business running a men’s clothing shop and believes he is in love and ready to settle down even though friends of his are skeptical. If you get the chance to read “One Day in December” please take it! This heartwarming read will be on my best of list for 2018 and I sincerely hope it will be on yours too! Did you think that Sarah’s response to finding out about bus boy’s identity was justified? Should she have stayed at the wedding despite her feelings? Did you feel she unjustly attributed too much blame on Laurie? Why or why not?

As is so often the case with me and new authors, I started with the last book first 🙄 but it didn’t spoil my enjoyment of the others.

Actors/Actresses

I actually believe one of my comments upon starting was that I thought chances were 50/50 I would DNF it. That thought seems utterly ridiculous now! The writing is expressive, amusing, and effortless. The characterization is spot on with a whole slew of characters that are genuine, multi-layered, intriguing and unique. And the plot is a series of compelling subplots that are skillfully unravelled and intertwined to create an unforgettable, heartfelt, humorous story about life, love, loss, family, adultery, deception, lies, friendship, romance, and happiness. It is almost Christmas as this story begins. It is told from the perspective of four people who will each experience more before the day ends than they could have imagined. So as Caro discovers who Lila is and Lila discovers Bernadette, their lives link in ways that see the day change their lives forever.

As the years pass, the trio learns to navigate adult life, enduring the heartbreaks of friendship and love, mourning for lost opportunities, and clinging with youthful hope for second chances. For the One Day in December recipe: I must confess to reading A Christmas to Remember every December. It encompasses everything that love and Christmas is about – enchanting. Throughout the book, Laurie and Sarah share a special sandwich, the Delancey Street Special, which Sarah created in their very first apartment together. It’s a strange combination of ingredients, but it’s the girls’ signature comfort food when they are struggling through something together. We see them mention or partake of the sandwich several times throughout the novel. Minerva Dobbs doesn’t believe in love at first sight and fairytale endings and neither does Calvin Morrisey: the guy who asks her on a date for a bet.I received a free copy of One Day in December from Crown Publishing. I was not compensated for my review and all opinions are my own.) About One Day in December: Caro is a 32-yo teacher from Aberdeen, and is looking after her mum who is currently in hospital. But whilst coping with all this, she’s also searching for her father, who left the family home. She’s searching on Facebook and comes across a Jim Kerr video (her dads fave) attached to a timeline of someone who shares her surname – what is going on? It talks about love, life and human relationships, and if you ask me, it stands somewhere on the edge between women’s fiction and general fiction. Set across a single day, with chapters that concentrate on single characters in a chunk of time, Shari brings together a bunch of flawed humans with her signature humour, keen eye on the human condition, and empathy-grabbing narratives.

I do not consider myself a serious Romance reader and it wouldn't be a stretch to say I went into One Day in December with a fair amount of trepidation. One Day in December originally caught my eye because of its intriguing premise. The idea that two people would see each other through a bus window and know instantly that it was love at first sight is soo romantic. It totally appealed to the sentimental mush in me. Besides, I'm always up for squeezing in a seasonally appropriate read this time of the year. Lila is a drug representative with a big flashy company car and company credit card. She is Cammy’s girlfriend, but doesn’t see a long term future with him. She is having an affair with one of her customers, a cardiac surgeon called Ken Manson. She wants him to leave his wife, which he promises he will, but not until the time is right. She has been willing to wait, until now.

I loved this book so much more then I thought I would. It is now one of my favorite Christmas stories, if not even my favorite, and I would recommend it to everyone who believes (or want to believe) in love at first sight, likes to read about friendships and life twists and turns.
