Das Geheimnis von Rookwood klang so toll, dass ich es auch direkt lesen musste. Ich liebe Internatsgeschichten I also like how in this book the differences between the twins become a little clearer, partly because other characters decide to abuse those differences. Although their thought and speaking pattern is still very much the same, and therefore I couldn't always remember who's point of view I was reading, I like how Scarlet and Ivy are two different people in this book, making different choices and having a different influence on other people and each other. There's also the case now that she's here, horses are being set free and girls getting pushed out of Windows, fights, letters and more strange dreams and behaviour, just what is happening next at this school? When Scarlet and Ivy return to school after the holidays, trouble is afoot and the very existence of Rookwood is threatened. Ahhhh! This was such a BRILLANT book💕 The story was gripping and there were many twists throughout the book❤️ It is a mystery middle grade and I relished reading it!!!❤️ It was super fast paced!!!

If you've been following me for any length of time, you'll know that one of the biggest points in any book for me is character development. In MG fiction, that's even more important. A character needs to grow, to change, and to find themselves in situations that cause them to step outside the box. Cleverly has that down pat. Ivy's character was brilliant. Quiet, meek Ivy learned so much about herself while posing as her much more outgoing sister, Scarlet. I loved watching her come out of her shell, and face down the danger. All for the love of her sibling. There are only three US covers for Scarlet and Ivy due to Sourcebooks no longer wishing to print the rest of the series. [1]

So Ivy now has to take on a great challenge. Scarlet and Ivy are like day and night, like chalk and cheese. But she has to remember all of her memories of Scarlet, otherwise she'll be in trouble. One day, she discovers a diary, Scarlet's, which tells her, bit by bit, the mysteries Ivy desperately wants to solve. Why did Scarlet die? Why did she obey Miss Fox?

This has a VERY satisfying ending, but with an ‘opening’ that makes you want to read on by CHOICE! (a different kind of thing altogether) Scarlet and Ivy are resigned to staying at Rookwood School for Girls, all the better for getting rid of the horrible Principal Batholomew. With a new acting Principal, Rookwood will at least be safer to attend. Or maybe not? So yes, big mystery. It’s the best kind of mystery writing too, the kind where, if you pay close attention, you can figure it out yourself, instead of waiting for it to be explained. I felt more and more engaged with each clue as I tried to beat Ivy to the metaphorical punch. This is not the only excitement for the twins and best friend Ariade. They are following clues about their mother. What was her real name? Why did she use someone else’s? Why did they never learn she’d been a pupil at Rookwood too? SC: I am definitely more like Ivy, I think. I am quite shy and bookish but have the occasional urge to have fun and go on adventures! But I have to say that Scarlet is my favorite twin to write as I sort of live vicariously through her. She isn’t afraid to stand up for herself and loves getting in all sorts of trouble.

Forbidding boarding schools, terrible headmistresses, brave girls, and tons of secrets. What more could a reader ask for?
