The Linx 8″ Microsoft Windows Tablet is a fantastic Windows tablet that comes preinstalled with Windows 8.

You should be able to pull most of the drivers through Windows update, the rest are fairly generic Intel, Realtek, etc. Just finishing up a few install issues and I'll see what can be done regarding the backed up recovery partition. The usual caveats will apply to game streaming, but this is certainly a more elegant solution than a regular small tablet with cables hanging off it and a controller plugged in. The handlebars feel solid, the grippy material is, well, grippy enough, and it's not an unpleasant thing to hold.

The tablet itself has a good weight to it and is a solid build with a great finish to both the casing and the glass. Whilst the Linx 8 may initially look like yet another non-descript black rectangle, it is actually a surprisingly well-made tablet with an understated, yet reasonably attractive design that – from some angles – could almost be mistaken for an iPad mini, were it not for the capacitive Windows logo that sits beneath the display (which brings up the Start screen). It is possible that dirt has amassed in the opening where the headphone is connected, preventing it from making proper contact. The whole setup is a little peculiar when compared to more traditional controller, but it seems to work. It’s certainly nowhere near as vibrant as the pixel colour of my iPad Air or even my Google Nexus, but at least the games looked super sharp. The "About" in Windows now says Linx 8 instead of 810B and the touch screen doesn't work properly, even in the Volume+/Power boot menu. I’m used to these sticks being quite close together and just by moving them apart it completely threw me off.I really like the controller cradle, but as well as it works, you can’t beat the layout of a good old fashioned controller and I’ll certainly be looking into picking up a micro USB adaptor so I can plug my Xbox One controller into the tablet. A few people on here have bought the new Linx 7", 8" and 10" windows tablets that have just come out. Battery life seems better although I have seen some reports of issues with bluetooth but I don't use that. Pro on several of these tablets for domain functionality only to find lots of the Linx 8″ Tablet drivers missing when the Windows 8. I do have a backup of the recovery partition which was created when I performed a usb recovery drive before force deleting the damn thing which is why I ended up doing a fresh install in the first place (well that and I wanted remote desktop which isn't available with the crippled bing version of 8.When you think of cheap tablets, the undeniable truth is that you're probably thinking of a plastic Google Android tablet to keep your kids happy. Above the screen is the only other feature to note up front beyond the screen, and that's the 2MP front-facing camera. I’m quite happy to admit that I’ve fallen victim to inflating my gamerscore with Windows 10 PC and mobile games – some are even pretty addictive – but when I do feel the need to stream my Xbox One to the tablet, the Linx’s gaming cradle snaps on easily with little fuss and no wires.

The speakers are clear but lack any depth to the bass – no problem if you have a decent headset and my Bluetooth ASTRO A38 worked perfectly. headphone socket sit on the top edge – all welcome connectivity, especially the HDMI socket, which affords the ability to output to a TV or monitor.
