Now I have a whole ten years to get through this 60 before 60 list – so I’ve included all those things I didn’t get to on the old list and a whole pile of new things to make it up to sixty new travel experiences. Maybe the time to start something new is right now! 31. Start your own business Any major life change comes with its own set of psychological challenges. When that change takes place in our 60’s. there are some very specific psychological issues to be aware of. Do you still need that disability policy to cover your mortgage in case you get hurt? Or could you take that money and buy an annuity that would give you some extra income? What about the cash value of your life insurance? Why, then, do I keep thinking that if I had two weeks left to live and just one decent throw of the arm left in me, oh man, I would really want to punch Iain Duncan Smith in the face. It’s an ambitious list. I don’t think I can accomplish everything on it. But just thinking about what I hope to accomplish and writing them down is an important step in the process.

Not many of you might have had the opportunity to spend some quality time on a road trip that’s uncertain and challenging at the same time. I bought my first caravan at 60 and nothing has stopped me from going on those long exciting hauls. All you need for a road trip is a clean caravan, some caravan awnings or annexes, a strong enough towing vehicle, the required supplies, a map, and some form of entertainment. If you have grandchildren, you can always take them with you. They can be pretty awesome and their enthusiasm can surely rekindle the child in you. It will give you great new insights, you will become more open-minded and you widen your horizon. 19. Visit a new country every year Grandparenthood is a beautiful revelation. You have kids, you know you will never experience that feeling of unconditional love for anyone else, ever, and then it happens all over again. A heart-stoppingly beautiful miracle. In England when you reach the State Pension age, you’re entitled to a free bus pass, whereas in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland you're entitled to this once you turn 60. Don’t forget to do the same with yourself. Be nice to yourself. Everyday. 6. Learn how to appreciate being aloneYou may find yourself with a lot of excess “nervous” energy that you would have used at your job to meet deadlines and get things done. On the other hand, you may find that you have no energy and all and it’s tough to even get out of bed. There are very unique financial considerations to take into account when making a major life change in your 60’s. Not only does gardening allow you to exercise and spend time in the sun, but your homegrown produce contains more nutrients than those mass-shipped as well. Living for parties and excitement, what use to be called “working for the weekend” slowly gives way to working on the weekend and eventually working towards retirement. No matter what kind of change you make in your 60’s — career change, retirement or becoming a entrepreneur, both your income and expenses are going to change. Study abroad or just go for a travel. There is something magical that happens when you spend a long time in a new surrounding. 21. Travel without being a tourist

Compatibility is hugely overrated. I have little in common with most of my friends and with just about the entirety of my wife. Many feel anxious about changing in their 60s as it is unchartered territory. However, without taking the initial step you never know what lies ahead. Aging is just a change in the body, it shouldn’t impact your determination and mind. The first section below is carried over from my previous list. I have purposely left three spots blank so that I can add them if I come across something else. Ten years is a long time (yet not so long at all!) For others, the prospect of retirement isn’t even a thought. Whether it’s a case of financial reality or just the psychological need to be productive, a continuing presence in the workforce is a reality for more and more of the 60+ crowd.
