The Close by Jane Casey is part of the Maeve Kerrigan series. I was excited to read this book, and it did not disappoint. I became a fan of Jane Casey by accident and just love her books and characters. The cover drew me in too! As for the interaction between the two main characters, it was very deftly done. It reminded me of Jill McGown´s Lloyd and Hill series,a sadly underrated great mystery author of a splendid series. The Close is a fast paced police procedural with an intriguing and complex plot, and interesting characters that I read in little more than 24 hours. Once I got into the last third, I simply couldn't put The Close down. The further the story progressed, the tenser it got. I can't wait for the next in this series. Odd things might be happening at Jellicoe Close. But without proof, there’s nothing that can be done. it’s up to DS Maeve Kerrigan and DI Josh Derwent to find something, and the only way that can be done is to somehow integrate themselves into this suburban street’s community. The Irish author Jane Casey has written many novels and the most prominent one is the Maeve Kerrigan Series. The first book in the series is titled ‘The Burning’ and was published by Minotaur Books in September of the year 2011. The protagonist of the book in a detective constable named Maeve Karrigan who is an ambitious young woman trying to do good. There is an enigmatic killer in the city who has been given the name The Burning Man by the media. This murderer has killed four women by beating them and then set their bodies on fire. This incident happened near the areas of London’s parks and while the city and the police were trying to make out how did this happen; a fifth murder occurs. Maeve Kerrigan is trying her best to make an impression on the murder task force. The male colleagues in her team think that Maeve is weak because of her empathy, but Maeve thinks differently. According to Maeve if she goes to the grieving family friends of Rebecca Haworth, the latest victim, she can learn about her and that can help her to bring the murderer of Rebecca and the other four women to justice. But the real question that arises now is how to catch someone whose face has not been seen by anyone and when there is no evidence left about the killer? The story of the book has also been narrated by Rebecca’s best friend Louise. Maeve goes very deep into the life of Rebecca and as far as in the university days at Oxford. She is trying to put all the pieces together to find out what might have happened on that winter night that caused her to be burned so violently. The plot written by Irish author Jane Casey is brilliant with all the materials that are required to make a book really good and exciting to read.
