What we liked: For starters, the Ember Travel Mug is the only mug that relies on old-fashioned design: travel mugs in general can keep coffee hotter for longer, which I saw demonstrated in my testing. Ember earlier this year introduced a new version of its electric Travel Mug, adding a key Apple feature - Find My support.

I've also recently started setting it slightly too hot to drink at a reasonable pace so that I'm keeping my caffeine consumption in check. Designed to be used wherever life takes you, the Ember Tumbler does more than simply keep your coffee hot. Whether you like coffee, tea, or a hot-tail we want you to enjoy your beverage at the perfect temperature and just the way you like it. Although the mug held up in performance, I did notice that the digital interface was starting to wear (when I set it to heat at 135°F, half of the “5” would no longer flash).The Ember Travel Mug² uses seven temperature sensors, a rapid cooling system, a microprocessor-controlled heating system, and temperature presets to easily dial in your perfect temperature. The app is decent, and there are presets for different beverages like 135 degrees for coffee, and 131 degrees for a latte. The Rambler does a better job of holding its heat, but the Tumbler’s job is to let my drink cool to its ideal drinking temperature — you can set whatever temperature you want in the Ember app for your phone, but it defaults to 135 degrees Fahrenheit, which science (Ember’s app) apparently says is the ideal coffee drinking temperature, and then uses its internal heaters to hold it there. Useful app: I do appreciate that you can go deeper with the app so that it earns its spot on your phone.

But the design choices felt strange: for some reason, it only worked off the charger, and displayed a bright red light to indicate that coffee was at an ideal drinking temperature, but didn't allow users to control the temperature, nor did it display the temperature. Ember Mug 2 : The good ol’ Ember performed just fine, but you get so many more features for a few bucks more with the Ember Travel. We also boast an active community focused on purchasing decisions and technical aspects of the iPhone, iPad, Mac, and other Apple platforms. The first generation of the heated Travel Mug launched in 2010, and in 2018, the self-heating mug drew investors like Nick and Joe Jonas. Ember warns about this and suggests holding it away from your face when you press the lid, but it hasn't been a huge issue over the time that I've been using the cup.With the YETI, there is some unpredictability regarding the beverage’s temperature, but it’s still able to maintain hot temperatures for several hours. If you want to keep your morning coffee at the exact perfect temperature for hours, you better be ready to shell out some serious cash.

The Ember Mug uses a press down lid, which I like because it doesn't seem to leak at all, but is easy to drink from.I also never submerged the mugs—I couldn’t wrap my head around each of these mugs having metal or a battery and throwing it into water).

It only offered three settings: you can set it to keep your coffee hot at 135°F, 140°F, or 145°F, but it has just as long of a battery life as the Ember Travel and works continuously when left on its charger.We’ve all let our coffee go cold at some point during a busy day, but with the world’s first temperature control mug from Ember, disappointing beverages are a thing of the past. Made with a durable stainless steel construction, Ember Tumbler is easy to clean and is safe to submerge up to 1 meter in water. What we didn’t like about the design is its lack of color choices—the only available option is black. It has a soft touch silicone exterior in black and a stainless steel interior that holds 12 ounces of liquid.
