In the game the heroes (players that aren’t the overlord) cannot die – this makes Descent a race against time. Mice & Mystics– Another adventure roleplaying book game similar to Stuffed Fables, but in this game you are people that have been turned into mice and need to save the castle and the king that is now way bigger than you.

The Hero was the basic "average" class. To win the game, the Hero would need to collect only 10,000 gold pieces (GP). Castle Ravenloft is great for those who enjoy Dungeons & Dragons, but may not have the narrative creation skills – or the required players – to get a grand adventure started. With quest cards and items found along your path you can essentially have an authentic D&D experience with Castle Ravenloft, complete with a miraculously unfolding dungeon. Mice and Mystics is a game played by 1 – 4 players who are loyal to the king of Vanestra who has recently been usurped. The players turn themselves into mice to escape the dungeon and reclaim the kingdom.Unlike other dungeon crawl board games – items in Gloomhaven are never destroyed (technically you can reset the board – although this would be difficult and I’ve never had the need to do this). The game is brilliant in that the character customization is so in depth and independent from other players playing the game. You really are spoiled for choice with the character skill trees. The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind, it’s said, is the boredom of having to read that bloody Lovecraft quote again. Yes, Fantasy Flight has made cosmic horror feel quaint through overuse in its Arkham Horror Files series, but it's also the cephalopod-slime-soaked set dressing of some of its best offerings. Dungeon! is an adventure board game designed by David R. Megarry and first released by TSR, Inc. in 1975. Additional contributions through multiple editions were made by Gary Gygax, Steve Winter, Jeff Grubb, Chris Dupuis and Michael Gray. [3] Dungeon! simulates some aspects of the Dungeons & Dragons ( D&D) role-playing game, which was released in 1974, although Megarry had a prototype of Dungeon! ready as early as 1972. [4]

Players progress in the game by fighting through missions. These take place in the mine and generally require players to defeat enemies and overcome objectives. Halfway through the game one player turns and is revealed as a traitor, and there are different scenarios for the game to determine if the heroes or the traitor wins. Storytelling fantasy crawler Mice and Mystics is still in print and widely available despite being almost a decade old, and there’s a good reason for that: it’s consistently listed as one of the best tabletop games for getting younger players into the hobby. Players play the game on a turn basis – taking time to explore rooms or carry out certain actions (like investigating a set of drawers for items etc). As Star Wars is essentially science fantasy, this game works really well because it is essentially a dungeon crawler set in space. The story is a bit light on details, but you really do feel like you are dungeon crawling in the Star Wars universe, it sets the scenes and paints the picture very well.At the conclusion of each mission, both sides are awarded experience and money (influence for Imperials) with the winning side receiving more.

For example, you could be 1 move away from collecting a quest token… when one of your friends just surprisingly shows up and lands a cheap shot between your shoulder blades when you aren’t looking. That’s right! One of the players in the game gets to be the ‘Overlord’. The overlord has one goal – DESTROY THE OTHER PLAYERS!

[15] Like Imperial Assault, one player assumes the role of evil Overlord. Also like Imperial Assault, there’s an app available to make Descent fully co-operative. Unlike the Star Wars game, however, there are approximately 38 billion expansions (in contrast to a mere four billion) for Descent - so if you want to go hard, the option is there. There are a plethora of fantastic dungeon crawler games available, each with its own unique set of features. Some are lighthearted and enjoyable, while others can be downright frightening. There are games set in some of your favorite universes, so you could be dungeon crawling through your favorite locations in Star Wars or Lord of the Rings! Shadows of Brimstone is a 1 – 4 player game whereby players choose their ‘Hero’ class (made up of western archetypes) – your character defines your attributes, skills and ultimately your play style in the game. I don’t think you can have a list of dungeon crawler board games without mentioning Gloomhaven. This might be the mother of all dungeon-crawling board games.

so 8-9, thats not counting the aussie version and spannish version (not sure if they had more then one printing either) The original base game, Zombicide, is very similar and also great if you prefer an apocalyptic setting without the fantasy elements. Jaws of the Lion is the little brother to Gloomhaven (listed below). It’s a cooperative game that plays 1-4 players, takes 1-2 hours, and has a lot of rules, though the game walks you through the rules as you play through the campaigns. Unlike other dungeon crawl board games – Mansions is unique in that combat is completely unpredictable.Doesn't stat boxed till strategic review 4, while other items like EPT& D&D, etc do from the get go. (not sure though if its the more description early on that prevents this or that there was no box at the inital release.) If a character dies – they start at the beginning of the dungeon and have a token taken from their life card. If all tokens are depleted that character dies for good. The players rush around the map trying to achieve objectives while the overlord tries to quash their attempts (e.g. trying to rescue a character while the overlord tries to kill that character). This is a bit like playing through a role-playing version of Toy Story. Cooperatively, the players take on the characters of stuffed toys who come to life and go on adventures to save their owner from evil.
