This was not my kind of book. I really thought this was going to be better than it was. It would be a great for a person who is really sport minded and into sports personalities, but unfortunately I am not that person. I mean, seriously, it's not like there's anything groundbreaking or insightful in this book. No, sir. Just the same old recycled information that you can find on any self-help blog. What makes the most powerful people in the world is that they are able to line up their thoughts, their words, and their actions in any environment”HABIT FIVE: DEVELOP INFLUENCE 1. Teach People How to Think. In every situation of influence, prepare by asking yourself how do you want other people to think about (a) themselves, (b) other people, and (c) the world at large. Then go communicate that consistently. Shape people’s thinking by saying things like: “Think of it this way . . .” “What do you think about . . .” “What would happen if we tried . . .” 2. Challenge People to Grow. Observe people’s character, connections, and contributions, and actively challenge them to develop those things even further. Ask people if they gave their all, if they could be treating those around them better, and if they could give even more or serve with even greater excellence and distinction. 3. Role Model the Way. Seventy-one percent of high performers say they think about being a role model daily. They want to be a good role model for their family, the team, and the greater community. So ask, “How can I handle this situation in a way that will inspire others to believe in themselves, be their best, and serve others with integrity, heart, and excellence?” What, from the life of Leonardo da Vinci, do you think can be applied into our present day existence? Burchard is also not a therapist. “I’ll remind you, I am not a psychologist, psychiatrist, neuroscientist, biologist, or any other title I’m aware of that ends in ‘-ist.’ I am a professional high performance coach and trainer who is paid for results, not discussion or theory.” Fair enough. That’s probably what most people who will consider this book are looking for. Otherwise you’d be in the religion or philosophy sections.

Awesome book. Highly practical and inspiring. It does seem like a roadmap to high performance. I'm excited to put into practice the high performance habits: There are countless such stories of people who fought against the odds and challenged the possibilities that life gave them. They were no different from you and me. They had the same hot, red blood running through them, the hunger for opportunity and the greed to grow. We receive many messages asking about book recommendations and the books which have been discussed on the podcast. He changed the industry of martial arts, and created a new form. In a deeply-steeped tradition, that’s not easy to do. He was able to disrupt and shift the game. They were not manufactured disruptions; they were authentic disruptions that came through insight and suffering. The combination of those two are very important. This book wasn't at all what I expected. i expected this to be what essentially amounts to The Productivity Project 2.0. I expected a book of techniques, tools, and strategies for being productive. That isn't actually what I got, and I'm happy that my expectations weren't satisfied here. What I got was a series of tools for maintaining that performance for the long haul without burning out, which was what I really needed. This is an interesting in book about what it takes to be a high performance or high achiever person. It does not shy from what it needs to be done and doesn't go into fantasy land saying that if you want something it will happen. However, the book is mostly based on stories from sport-related careers and sometimes it is hard to make the connection to a working day in a normal office. You know what it’s like. Because you’ve been there. You’re just a finance guy. What do you know about coding? You’re a management consultant. How can you ever be an actor?
