Description

For Obi-Wan’s face I used my standard Caucasian Flesh recipe. It uses three colors: Citadel Doombull Brown, Reaper Tanned Flesh, and Citadel Flayed One Flesh. This is a multistep process that doesn’t take as long as it sounds, and results in nice smooth skin if you take your time. I highlighted the lenses with Mephiston Red, then old Blood Red [ Evil Sunz Scarlet], concentrating my highlights on the front and lower parts of the lenses. Keep the Skrag Brown thinned so that the shading you have already done can show through. The wash with Agrax Earthshade is then used to deepen the tone and increase the shading. How to paint Dead horses Skin, Bone, Intestines, Tail & Mane Final highlight the bottom-right of the jewel with an even smaller layer of Baharroth Blue mixed with White. Airbrush Vallejo Model Air Insignia White over the entire thing. You could also use your favorite off-white, I’m a fan of Insignia white as it’s very close and just a tiny bit warm.

Taking into account color theory, particularly complimentary and split-complementary colors, the choice to list these hues was made. The robes are painted the same way as the red fists, and for this first Veteran I also added some heraldry to his badge in the quite simple form of a red stripe in the same colours and a skull from the Imperial Knights transfer sheet (the tiny Adeptus Titanicus version!) AT transfers are a good source for heraldry – Knights have a great variety of badges and a lot of the AT houses are unusual for 40k, so you can steal their iconography quite freely. I did the same for the other two Veterans. The shields are a fun place to play around with different things – I particularly like the Veteran with a night-sky kind of heraldry with a star at the top, and then the symbol of House Makabius re-purposed as his personal crest.
