Movement is based around “hip” action and side-to-side head bopping. Lights are displayed in a disco-style on the BeatBelle’s tummy and interactive sound and speech is incorporated via a speaker at the rear and a microphone at the top of the BeatBelle’s head. The smart touch bar, created for 360-degree play, features numbers one through five, all 26 letters of the alphabet, and instrument graphics, including a whistle and a drum. It also includes a bright green ramp and three colorful balls, a bat-at roller, and a spinner for a set of hands-on-activities that are ideal for toddlers. Another big hit with the Savvy household, this interactive dance mat is essentially a BeatBo model that clips onto a pivot point in the middle of the dance mat. Once in place it serves as a focus for movement around the mat and was particularly great for Baby Savvy starting to crawl and kneel up obstacles. It encourages upright movement around a central point. Our first average we look at for Fisher-Price Bright Beats Learning Train is to judge it against other products from the same brand, in this case it’s Fisher-Price. When my wee boy was a couple of months old I asked some friends for ideas of toys for him and nearly everyone recommended BeatBo. I thought he was still too young for it but they were very insistent so I went ahead and got one. Last but not the least, this toy helps develop sensory skills through the variety of colors, lights, and sounds that stimulate babies’ senses.

Babies grow up fast, and that means they grow out of their toys fast, too. But some toys are made with kids’ development in mind, evolving with babies as they transition from sitting, to crawling, to standing and walking. Small holes on the interactive pivot base have motion sensors to detect babies or toddlers moving between the mat’s coloured zones and, while a great idea, this proved a little erratic at times. The mat certainly responded best to one child at a time, but still required the children to move at certain speeds to register on the motion sensor (this would be our main note for the developers).

The ABC Dance is almost guaranteed to get a smile out of him; though for some reason the Rainbow Colours song makes him cry. Second, the toy helps develop gross motor skills as babies progress from sitting and reaching, to crawling, and finally, to standing upright and walking. The 360-degree play experience encourages babies to dance and cruise around the whole space.

For toddlers the mat’s usage need to be modelled first to get the most out of it. Little Savvy for example would happily jump between sections of the mat, cutting it off mid activity or tune. It needs a degree of adult-led modelling before then allowing them independent enjoyment. It's quite pricy for what it really is but there's no denying we'll get our money's worth from it as I'm sure it'll keep us all occupied well into the toddler years. A month in and we're starting to notice that the batteries are dying and it cuts out halfway through some songs but it keeps the little guy quiet and entertained so I'm sure we'll keep BeatBo fuelled for a while yet. It keeps most of the adults in the family entertained as well.My son likes music and has always been fascinated by lights so BeatBo holds his attention really well. We initially used it to distract him during the dreaded nappy changes but now he'll happily sit up and watch the toy for a while; it's especially handy for breaking him of a crying jag when he's wound up. The green button activates the “Dance and Move” function. A series of programmed movements, music and interactions to encourage little ones to get active. We particularly liked the fact that the music covered a range of tempo. This meant that alongside the perks of the exercise Little Savvy was getting as he bounced around the room to upbeat tunes, there was also a range of slower tempo sections to calm, sooth and mellow the excitement. Now is also a good time to say there’s a low volume setting too! Well done Fisher Price! With a simple on/off switch on BeatBo’s foot the music, sounds, and lights are activated by moving BeatBo’s head. So much fun watching his little head wobbling and wiggling to the beat. The BeatBelle essentially does three main things. It dances, interacts with singing, and displays sensory lighting. The coloured buttons worked in a similar way to the BeatBelle’s functions offering up tunes and melodies to move around to. As with the BeatBelle the melodies varied in tempo and delivered an array of developmental activities. The mat has led functionality beneath the surface providing a lovely sensory experience, great with the lights out.
