Description

First, the metal bracelet, while nice and light, feels a bit sharp around the edges. An oyster bracelet this is definitely not. The Three Star does pass this test for two reasons. First, it has an uncluttered dial, and second, the minute hands are as such where they can be distinguished just about anywhere...

The worst part of the movement that I’ve noticed is the noise of the automatic winding rotor as your wrist moves. The rotor noise is obvious even when your wrist is down by your side and nowhere near your ears, that’s how loud it is. I assume it’s due to poor quality bearings or maybe even no bearings in the rotor system at all. Unlike replacing the poor quality bracelet, there is no easy fix for the loud rotor other than having a watchmaker take a look at it. Even then, the movement design may not allow a simple fix. They chose to highlight the beautiful green dial with a thin polished steel bezel surrounding the crystal. This little pop of polished metal reflects the light and nicely compliments the shiny gold colored hour markers without being overly flashy or unsightly.These are daily wear watches, with components that, although economical, have been selected to withstand many hours of use. Let’s examine them in parts. ➤ Case and Crown I was however a bit annoyed at first with the low 30 meters WR resistance of the 3 star. I am used to wear WR100 meters rated Casios, Vostoks Amphibia (200 meters WR) and other high WR rated watches that I can leave on the wirst at shower and at the swimming pool. That is not the case, you have to remove the watch before to take a shower or to swim. The 1970s were very challenging years for the watch industry as quartz technology gained ground, and many companies had to close as they became non-competitive. Functional, but feels a bit cheap. I'm personally okay with it, but it is a bit thin and the edges are a little sharp. The brand’s approach was that there was still a significant demand for mechanical watches in less developed countries, where it was more difficult and costly to obtain replacement batteries.

Terrible. That’s honestly the best way I can describe the bracelet on the Orient 3 Star. I knew when I bought this piece the bracelet was nothing to write home about, but it’s even worse than I expected. The folded five link bracelet is made from stainless steel and has a stamped fold-over clasp. Each of the stars represents a quality of the Orient 3 Star: the first is for design, the second represents quality, and the third represents affordability. Orient was not alone in wanting to maintain its watchmaking heritage. Many of the Swiss luxury brands were able to weather the quartz storm, although some were eventually sold to Swatch, one of the big beneficiaries of the quartz revolution. I've not seen any of these watches for sale under the model name Crystal. Some call it that because the word Crystal is physically printed on the dial just below the three stars. Here’s where the Orient 3 Star gets into “love it or hate it” territory. There’s only really one subdued option for the color of the face and dial: The blue dial on stainless steel version.The markers are usually applied to enhance visibility, although there are also designs with large printed numbers. Second, I've already managed to scratch the case. The stainless steel somehow got a little scuff near the 6 position in less than a week of owning it. I imagine with regular wear that my Three Star is going to get all sorts of scratched up over time. Then again, that's what happens when you wear a watch regularly. It features an oyster-style design with folded links, which makes adjustment quite difficult and gives it a cheap feel compared to other stainless steel bracelets.
