I've become so accustomed to things just turning off when I stop using them (taking my AirPods Pro out of my ears, for example), that I regularly forget that some things actually need to be turned off manually. AirFly Pro doesn't ever turn off unless you press the button for about four seconds. If you leave it connected to your car and don't first turn it off, it says on, waiting for your return. If you don't return for 16 hours, I'm pretty sure your juice will be gone (though I didn't test the battery's performance for 16 hours). So, if you're on a plane and you and your traveling companion both have your favorite pair of wireless active noise-canceling headphones, but only one of you has an AirFly Pro, you can both still enjoy using your favorite headphones (though you both would have to watch the same movie). Audio sharing with AirFly Pro is amazing. I went ahead and tried listening to audio on my Switch using one earbud from two different headphones at the same time and there wasn't even any lag between them. It was as though I was listening through a single pair. AirFly is compatible with all Bluetooth wireless headphones. If your headphones can connect to your mobile phone using Bluetooth, then AirFly can connect to your headphones too. All brands are welcome - Sony, Bose, Beats and more! The second new feature that AirFly Pro has is called Receive mode. Flip the switch on the side of the AirFly Pro dongle and it becomes the receiver of the Bluetooth transmission. Pair it with your iPhone, and then plug it into an aux-in port (like the one you might find in a car), and suddenly, your phone is wirelessly connected to your car (or a rental car, or a friend's car). I'm a big fan of Bluetooth receivers in my house. I own a lot of older speakers that don't support Bluetooth. As long as you have a 3.5mm aux-in port (not the headphone port, that's aux-out), this will make your home sound system Bluetooth enabled.

The only downside we can find to the Airfly Pro is that it cannot be used on phone calls. So if you have it plugged into a car or speaker, you will need to remove the device before answering the phone. What is the Airfly Duo? It also supports Bluetooth 5.0 with aptX Low Latency Codecs so if your Bluetooth headphones or earphones support Bluetooth 5.0, you won’t get any audio latency when playing games or watching movies with the Airfly Pro. Receive mode means it will receive Bluetooth audio signal/data and the audio will be played on whatever 3.5mm device it’s plugged to (i.e speakers, or your car audio input, etc).The battery is rechargeable via USB Type-C and can provide up to 16+ hours battery life in a single charge (depends on usage, of course). The main button is used to turn the Airfly Pro on and off, but there is also a toggle which will set the device into either Transmit or Receive Audio mode. It’s important to note that the Airfly Pro typically costs a little more, while the Airfly Duo can be found at a more affordable price. There’s plenty to love about the AirFly Duo. From its small and compact size, including the handy drawstring pouch, to the ease in connecting the device to your favorite headphones, it’s a terrific product that travelers should be excited to try out. Pairing the AirFly with your favorite set of wireless headphones couldn’t be easier. After fully charging the device with the included charging cable, we were able to pair our set of AirPods Pro within 30 seconds with the push of a couple of buttons — one on the AirFly and one on the AirPods case. During our testing on a nearly completely full airplane, the AirFly had no difficulties producing sound without interfering with other Bluetooth headphones in the small space. This accessory is easy to carry around, measuring just 2.2 inches by 1.0 inches by 0.4 inches. It’s a featherweight 0.6 ounces (17 grams).

This accessory is short range, and you’ll have to be very careful to not accidentally leave it behind, but Twelve South created something very useful. Pricing Both the Airfly Pro and Airfly Duo will allow you to listen to a device through your wireless headphones without connecting via Bluetooth. The main difference between the two is that the Airfly Dro does not allow for audio input, but it does offer an extra four hours of battery life. There was a slight audio latency when I tested Airfly Pro (about half a second or so) while watching the in-flight movies. The delay was not huge and might not be a big deal to some, but I could notice it. This is because I was using Bose QC35 II which has a Bluetooth 4.1 (doh, silly me). Airfly Pro actually supports Bluetooth 5.0 aptX Low Latency which will cut this latency to 1ms, almost negligible. In my testing, the AirFly Pro is easy to use and reliable. It had no problems connecting to any of the Bluetooth devices I tried. That includes multiple pairs of headphones, and a speaker too.There’s a removable cover for the plug that includes a loop so you can attach the AirFly Pro to your keys, but be careful using it: If the cover pops off, you’ve lost this accessory. Maybe keep it in a bag instead.

Twelve South has included a cap for the AirFly Pro that has a small key ring on it. I love this little addition because I can add it to my keychain and always have my AirFly Pro with me wherever I go. You never know when you're going to want to connect to the audio in a car. However, the Duo will only play through your headphones. And that the Duo offers four more hours of enjoyment as the battery will last twenty hours instead of the sixteen that the Pro provides. Final Thoughts Setup is a snap. Just press and hold the power button on the front of this accessory. A blinking LED will tell you the AirFly Pro is ready to pair, so put your AirPods or other device into pairing mode also and the two will start communicating. Although the product is being sold by Apple, it works with every brand of wireless headphones, not just Airpods.What we particularly loved about the AirFly Duo is the fact that you can share audio with your travel partner. Because the device can be connected to two wireless Bluetooth devices at the same time, you and your travel partner can simultaneously watch the same movie in flight. Say goodbye to starting and pausing a film on your individual screens at the exact same time — the AirFly Duo ensures you stay in sync during your film or TV show. Transmit mode means it will send the audio from the device it’s plugged to, straight to your Bluetooth device (e.g your Bluetooth headphones/earphones). For example, if you plug it to your Nintendo Switch, you can use any Bluetooth earphones/headphones with the console. AirFly (2nd gen) is not currently compatible with AirPods Pro (2nd generation). We recommend AirFly Pro for AirPods Pro (2nd generation). You are now an Airfly expert, and it really is up to you to decide which device is the better option for you. If you’d be happy with something simpler, the original AirFly connects to just one pair of headphones and is only a receiver — it can‘t transmit.
