Don’t hike with trekking poles? No worries, get an UL Carbon Fiber Pole in exactly the right length for this Mid. Our Pyramid Tent Poles are made from 0.5″ | 13 mm unidirectional cello carbon wrapped carbon fiber tube, with fabric weave carbon fiber ferrules – it’s a mouthful to say, but it means they’re super bomber and light! MORE INFO… TITANIUM STAKES Overall I’m very pleased with the design, weight, ease of setup, and quality build. However, took it out for a two week Alaska camping trip early October and faced two days of light but continuous rain early on. We set up camp on a dry day. The tent appeared to “wet out” similar to Gore-Tex once it’s saturated/water-logged and it no longer provided a viable rain barrier. Micro-droplets continuously dropped on us throughout the night (far more than normal condensation build-up) and left us with very wet sleeping bags and gear. There was also some leakage through the main door zipper. With temperatures rapidly dropping and no place to dry our wet gear we had to cancel the remainder of our trip. Double-wall pyramid tents feature an additional inner tent, usually made of breathable fabric and mesh, which provides extra insulation and protection against insects and ground moisture. The inner tent also helps to reduce condensation by allowing moisture to escape. Double-wall pyramid tents are slightly heavier and more complex to set up than single-wall tents, but they offer increased comfort and versatility. Consider how easy the tent is to set up. Pyramid tents are generally easy to set up, but some models may be more complicated than others. If possible, try setting up the tent before you buy it.

Pyramid tents are very wind and weather resistant. They have a single peak and solid walls, making them a good choice for camping in exposed terrain or in winter conditions. Pyramid tents can handle pretty strong winds but the center pole and stakes receive a lot of force. If you’re expecting a storm, you’ll need to make sure your tent is prepared. As already mentioned, every tent will suffer from condensation in certain conditions and generally to a certain degree, this is simply a fact of life, but as long as it runs down the inside of the outer flysheet rather than dripping onto the inner tent, then all is fine. And this is where the pyramidal shape of the PYRAMID tent works extremely well. Condensation only becomes an issue if it drips onto or down the inner tent. Summary

Bias to straight grain tent panels. So far, most of my pyramid tents have been unconventionally cut out and sewn so that each radial seam combines a straight grain side and a bias cut side. This intentionally made all seams have a uniform and limited stretch. It is a tedious process that has worked as intended without the need for catenary seam curving. However, it does not let the bias grain stretch naturally and become taught as it otherwise would do. It leaves the adjacent bias grain fabric a little ‘baggy’. “Like the sails on an old square-rigged sailing ship. This effect can be seen, in the above photo of the silver polyester tent. Pyramid tents and tarps are prone to internal condensation just like any other single or double-walled tent and shelter. The best way to reduce or eliminate any internal condensation is to maintain as much airflow as possible. While many pyramid shelters have a vent in the peak, this isn’t usually sufficient by itself to vent moisture build-up. While sleeping with the front door rolled open in fair weather can be quite helpful, the best way to ensure good airflow is to maintain a wide air gap between the bottom edge of the tarp and the ground so breezes can pass through the tent. Lengthen the center pole a few inches to raise the peak, and stake out the base as normal. The least amount of overhead clearance is at the head and foot ends under the slanted walls. Types of tents

Condensation in tents is caused by moisture from your breath and body heat. To minimize condensation, ensure your tent is well-ventilated. Many pyramid tents have a vent at the peak to allow for airflow. Also, setting up your tent in a breezy area can help. The primary downside of this mid is in the configuration. The two interior trekking poles provide a stable design, but they are set up right in the middle of the tent. This relegates the prime real estate of its shelter to a strip in the middle, mostly used for gear storage.
