The rear-positioned gearbox is sealed to protect from dust and dirt, with the built-in differential gear offering smooth cornering.

Now that I'm posting these pics, I'm thinking that I shouldn't have greased the large bevel gear if I'm going to use the diff putty. Whoops! If collected or delivered within a reasonable distance I'll also include two Nimh 6 cell batteries (1800 and 3500mah). Building the car was very easy, there are already some topics with a excellent description so I won't write about that again. Despite it being a Bitsa, I rather like it, and hope to add it to my fleet one day. However one thing worries me a bit about it - the wheel/tyre combo consists of tyres that are the same front and rear, on wheels that are wider at the rear than at the front. As you can see in the photo, the rear wheels are wider than the tyres, and the resultant angled sidewalls look a bit odd to my eye.The official DT-02 heat sink set will only work for closed can motors and does not cure heat problems from wrong gearing. Without the set, the motor will be almost completely enclosed by the gearbox and get very hot even with silvercans on offroad terrain. Oh hey, look at this rear suspension arm on the front. Seems a little large-ish so I suppose I ought to swap it out. Made from lightweight and durable polycarbonate, it features a rear wing, and can be decorated using the flashy markings included in the kit.

The DT-02 gearbox seems to be flexible enough to fit a wide range of wheel and tire sizes based on the number of different boots that Tamiya have trown on the chassis. The offset is essentially 0 as I recall and I should be able to switch the rear hex adapters for the Lunchbox rear adapters without modification.It is also possible to fit the smaller front wheels with Dirt Hag I tires, but those have a smaller radius so that's a personal choice. As many of you know from the Nuremberg Show thread, one of the new releases is the DT-03T Aqroshot - a typical Tamiya parts bin offering consisting of the chassis from a Neo Fighter, the shell from a Super Levant, the wheels from a Stadium Blitzer and tyres from a Street Rover. I was under the impression that the Dt01 chassis was closer in design to the 02/03 since the 02/03 are very similar. Which results in a difficult to control car spinning around as soon as you hit the throttle. Of course it is possible to slowly put on the power, but that's not the way it should be. Running on grass is not possible at all. First up, the unceremonious opening of the box, as has become typical of Tamiya of late, these space saving boxes seem to be the norm, it's a pity but I guess it keeps the costs down on the lesser kits...

Required for completion; 2 Channel Radio System, 1 Servo, Battery and Charger, Polycarbonate Paint for the Body, Tools for assembly and Glue for the Tyres. And that's about all for now, can't go any further until the rear universal shafts arrive which should be in the next week or so all being well. I've just managed to cram the receiver into the receiver box that comes with the chassis...it's not waterproof but should protect it somewhat. Might put some foam lining on the inside of it to afford some more protection.

Modelsport Starter Bundles

A good choice of model there. Some don't like the shell, but I think it looks great, especially when joined by some grippier tyres. And the chassis is lots of fun for beginners and experienced hobbyists alike. I've been putting this off for awhile but as it's not getting any use these days my Aqroshot is now up for sale. That doesn't mean it won't still work. Wheel and tire choice for dt03 is something I've been googling around for a couple weeks in anticipation of my build. I'll definitely be trying wheels off my Lunchbox to see if they fit. Some suggested Hop Ups... (note that this kit already comes with the Torque tuned motor and CVA's) I have bearings and the ball diff to go in also.
