Epoxy paints require a little more care to apply, but the end result will be much tougher and more durable than solvent-based alternatives. That means they’re more resistant to wear, and you’re less likely to chip the paint if you drop a heavy tool on the floor. Do I need a garage floor paint primer? How long does it take before you can walk on the garage floor? The coated floor is generally accessible after 24 hours. But be careful! Walkable means not passable. A car weighs considerably more than a person. Accordingly, the coating of the floor may be sufficiently cured for one person after one day. For a vehicle, this period is not enough.

A potentially damp surface or slab should be primed with a damp proof membrane. If you are looking for a more decorative appearance then a flake finish system is perfect as a highly customisable, attractive flooring system. Garage floor paint and garage epoxy floor coatings are two different products. The terms however are sometimes used interchangeably. It’s important that you know that the chemical make-ups of these two products are radically different. Epoxy garage floor coatings are stronger and more hard-wearing. What garage flooring is right for me?You can apply the mixture in the corners with a brush. For the rest of the garage floor, it is best to use a short-hair roller. The epoxy resin is applied in strips – just like painting a wall. Ideally, these strips should overlap evenly to create a uniform layer. The layer must then dry for 12 hours.

Garage floors take a beating. From the weight of heavy vehicles and equipment to the constant threat of chemical products spilling on them and scratches and scrapes from tools, bikes and more. That’s why a tough material like resin flooring can be an excellent choice for a garage floor. Especially in hot summer, priming the garage floor can be difficult: Warm air naturally contains more moisture than cold air. The garage floor is about 15° C cooler, which in turn can cause condensation. The problem with this is that when the primer dries, the condensation water sometimes causes unsightly stains. To ensure that everything runs smoothly, a temperature of 16 to 23° C is recommended. Caution: The floor should have a temperature of at least 10° C so that the work can be carried out cleanly. Old paint finishes should be removed if flaking at all and the surface should be sanded to create a texture (also known as a mechanical key) prior to applying Resincoat Fast Cure Epoxy Garage Floor Paint. When preparing for a floor coat, doing so mechanically (shot-blasting or grinding) is always advisable for best results, but if that is not possible then sanding the area or our Etch and Clean is a good alternative. After the surface has been completely abraded, thoroughly sweep and vacuum the area of any remaining dust or contaminants. After 7 days at the earliest you can drive a car into the garage. It is better to wait 12 days. This period of time requires some patience. However, it is worth the wait. If you act too early at this point and put too much strain on the floor, you risk unsightly marks and uneven dents in the resin layer. Older garage floors are often contaminated in some way. If this is the case, we suggest you clean and mechanically prepare the floor before an oil tolerant primer like FAS 100 Primer is applied. This will reduce the risk of debonding of the epoxy coatings.
