The quiet villages of the countryside are being overrun with bread factories, whiskey distilleries, and cheeseries. I don’t see much advantage to having extra merchants without additional production or money producing capacity. This clan is very powerful, similarly to Clan Cunningham in that it provides lots of cash for extra actions.

If it's a 2-player game and the 2nd player has a weak clan, it will be hard to rein in Cunningham even with the tighter map.Each player can only have one unfulfilled contract at a time (one clan will allow you to hold an extra one). Some of these will have better overlap with what you are trying to do, both contract and faction wise, so you should pick 2 or 3 to score well and score the others if you can. I guess you're supposed to use the 2/4-pound savings on cheap workers to put out more of them faster, or place animals/factories. That freedom primarily comes about because of only having a single resource, money, to worry about as opposed to Terra Mystica’s 3 (at minimum).

These will be your main source of points, and just racing to complete as many as possible is a great challenge. In particular, there can be a tendency from players to build their engine one turn longer than necessary, or to permit for greater concentration of assets in the early game. I look to how to get around using them like meat contracts, so then contracts that have wool and cheese seem to offer a bit more wiggle room to fulfil (as you make these at round end just before the next round meat sacrifice).Constructing things, variable player powers, market manipulation… these have all been used in other games before. You need trained merchants to actually enter the market, and you only start with 2, although they are relatively inexpensive to hire. It’s probably harsh to gripe about Clan balance at this early stage, but there is a lot of talk on BGG (BoardGameGeek) already about potential imbalance, and I myself feel the whisky cellar of Clan MacKenzie is particularly lucrative, especially for achieving much higher income than everyone else later in the game.

The main action you will be taking on your turn, in most cases, will be to expand, placing one of your coloured units onto the main board removing it from the top column of your player board.

I am really not a fan of the round scoring tiles as they have little effect, much better is Terra Mystica where they have some development rewards too as well as the final scoring not being so much of a factor. Econ strategy- the first 3 rounds of the game you place down a ton of units that give you a ton of pounds and manufactured goods.

This is fine at first, but as the board becomes crowded, the opportunities for expanding in this way become few and far between.

For instance, placing a Distillery (which has a cost of 10) into a field that is labeled with a cost of 4 would cost the player 14 bucks.
