The characters were complex, yet distinct enough that one could imagine Buzzfeed running a 'Which of the Expectation gals matches your personality? I have read and loved books by many male authors writing female characters that I find totally believable, but in Expectation it was the small details and unspoken sentiments that were the most relatable to me.We are experiencing delays with deliveries to many countries, but in most cases local services have now resumed. Completing the trio of friends is failing actress Lissa, whose disappointment about the way her life has turned out runs deep: “She is the sum total only of her failures. There’s a huge jump in time at the end of the story and I think I would have been happy to read for longer and experience the story unravel a little more. The story is told from the perspective of three friends - Lissa, Cate and Hannah - and switches back and forward in time from their shared past to their fractured present.

Also the time frame just keeps jumping around everywhere which confuses me and I keep forgetting who is who. Her contemporary fiction debut, Expectation, explores themes of love, lust, motherhood, and feminism, while asking the greater question of what defines a generation.The only ones that sound interesting are My Sister, The Serial Killer (which I have in my TBR pile), the Deborah Levy and possibly the Elif Shafak.
