So... since the novel kept me on the couch to the end, (And the end was surprisingly good) I'll have to give it four stars, since I don't give fives. Although , it was extremely hard to believe they would have had modern, science facilities in Adolf Hitler's time so I'd have to mark it down to three stars. Actually, since the first half of the book was utterly boring, I would have to slice off a star again. So my final and last score for this novel is a two out of five, yes two stars.

In the second section of the book, James travels to Scotland on spring break to visit his Aunt Charmian and Uncle Max, who is dying of cancer. During this visit, the cause of James's parents’ deaths is revealed, and James learns more about his uncle's history as a spy during World War I. James also meets a few friends, including an older boy, Red, and a love interest, Wilder Lawless. James and Red travel to the nearby Hellebore estate, which includes Loch Silverfin. At the estate, the two meet Mike Moran, a Pinkerton detective investigating Lord Hellebore at the request of his wife, who suspects Hellebore of having killed his own brother, Algar, because he was having an affair with Lady Hellebore. The boys find Detective Moran dead in Loch Silverfin, with his body mostly eaten by the carnivorous eels. This graphic novel is so good I forgot it was a graphic novel! I have a great imagination and visualize my books I read in my head. This book visualized it for me. The art is so good, I noticed so many small details the artist added.

Because Fleming never explicitly said when James Bond was born, Ian Fleming Publications and Charlie Higson chose the year 1920 as his birth year. SilverFin takes place in 1933. Fleming: "The scent and smoke and sweat of a casino are nauseating at three in the morning" Higson: "The smell and noise and confusion of a hallway full of schoolboys can be quite awful at twenty past seven in the morning." Ian Fleming's impression of James Bond, drawn by an unknown artist (it would seem that out of all the movie Bonds, Pierce Brosnan is the closest to what Fleming envisaged. As an avid movie watcher, I enjoyed this spectacular graphic novel! Since I have watched almost every 007 movie, I was definitely not let down. Not only did the author successfully integrate the Bond we know and love, but he was also able to develop a new and interesting plot. I loved it when James encountered the biggest danger of all but was soon saved by the most unexpected hero of them all. Plus, Red constantly provided a witty sense of humor, a characteristic that made him my favorite character. Even though the main plot of the story was intriguing, the several side-plots (e.g.. the Hellebore Cup, a race that took up much of Part I) were hard to follow and in the end, unnecessary. Despite the confusing subplots, I still highly recommend Silverfin to anyone who enjoys graphic novels, adventure-filled books, or just loves James Bond (like I do). For a James Bond literary fun undoubtedly a lot of fun, unless you are purist and consider everything not written by Fleming unworthy. I did enjoy the graphic novel a lot. James Bond is, without doubt, the daddy of all literary spies. His name is synonymous with intrigue and adventure, action and old-fashioned derring-do. Some supernatural elements and sci-fi carry it through, just as much as Ian Fleming's original stories. As I said earlier this book gets into the mystery too late but you still don't want to put it down, you want to keep reading even though it is not that exiting initially. Some kids will enjoy Alex Rider more but overall it is a good book with lovable characters. I liked this book and I hope you will too. My favorite quote from this book is the final quote as it teaches you a moral, the quote and moral is "Don't ever be a spy" The reason I admire this quote is because at around the middle of the novel, Bond's uncle was explaining how he was beaten and tortured by German Soldiers then said. "Don't ever be a spy". So once James Bond had experienced his bit of being a spy he agreed with his uncle and it wrapped up the novel nicely.

Something new I learnt from this book is NEVER be a spy just like the quote, because if you do, you will probably, get Eel serum injected to your body, have a narrow escape from flesh peeling eels, nearly get shot in the face by a double barrel shotgun, and experience a narrow escape from a purple eyed beast who ( SPOILER ALERT SO DON"T SAY I DIDN'T WARN YOU, OK?! ) kills the evil possessed madman. Bond's Aunt Charmian drives an identical Bentley to one Bond drives in Casino Royale and in subsequent books. Bond also inherits his uncle's 1.5 liter Bamford & Martin Sidevalve Short Chassis Tourer. Bamford & Martin later became Aston Martin.
