I thought that this was such a great book to the point that I read it from start to finish in one setting.

While there are many questions one can develop related to resistance, what I want to focus on instead is how Wilkinson utilized metaphor as his means to describe the struggle of Ordinary's life. The main reason it falls short is because the underlying principle is erroneous--it is all about living our dreams in the here and now or as Joel Osteen would say "Your best life now. It might be a "nice story" but encouraging people to focus on their earthly dreams, ambitions and successes even with God in the picture is a recipe for disaster. He begins with a compelling modern-day parable about Ordinary, who dares to leave the Land of Familiar to pursue his Big Dream.The first half of the book was like a Pilgrim's Progress type fairy tale with a person named Ordinary in the Land of Familiar. It is here where the overt Christian nature of the book may confuse those who did not know about it for at the end of his time in the Sanctuary Ordinary must give up his Big Dream.

I point it out right away because the construct of faith in God has almost everything to do with the parable/story used to bring out the lessons of the book. He describes himself pushing his comfort zones by preaching at bigger and bigger churches and conferences. I hope this book has convinced you to chase after that Dream with every fiber of your being… take next steps towards realizing your Dream…Now May you devote yourself to His Dream for you. But it may also strike some as overly simplistic, since the tone veers towards childish at times ("We've all seen how Bullies work. The frustrating thing is they are almost always learned on the other side… so we must have faith and walk forward.It made me realize that I have a lot of responsibility to fulfill the dreams and visions that God has given me. Anyway, the book also gives an outline on what to do to pursue those dreams regardless of ones' age or life predicaments. Through reading about the journey that Ordinary goes through, I found a lot more courage and belief to pursue my dreams and overcome obstacles to make it happen.
