I just wanted to mention my positive experience using Gnatrol (a biological control [Bacillus thuringiensis] for fungus gnats). Fungus gnat larvae generally respond to Gnatrol WDG treatment within 24 hours following application.

After ingestion it breaks down the intestinal walls and the larvae stop feeding and die within 24-72 hours.Does anyone know if gnatrol (aka mosquito bits, aka bacillus thurigiensis) is safe to use with isopods and springtails? I tried drying out the soil, but even after all the dirt was bone dry and the leaves started to wilt, watering seemed to bring back the gnats with a vengeance. I do first plan on adding another culture of springtails, give them a couple weeks to establish and see if that affects the gnats at all. But after reading more about it, Bti is as close to a miracle fix as modern science has come up with. oz per 100 gallons for light infestations, and 13 to 26 oz per 100 gallons for heavy infestations, applied as a soil drench.

You can use Gnatrol OMRI in greenhouses and various interior plantscapes to protect ornamental and vegetable crops.Gnatrol is now in a water dispersible granule (WDG) formulation that will not leave a residue and is easier to measure for increased application accuracy.

I know I had springtails in there when I first set up the tank earlier in the year, but don't see them anymore. Apply it to the top 2 inches of soil as a drench every 5 days until the adults are not flying around anymore.
