Dex is willing to accommodate everyone else’s feelings and emotions, but never gives them self permission to lean on others. There is an almost melancholy air to Dex at times as they continue to question their life’s goals and purpose. is said on an uplift, her voice rising a couple octaves and sounding almost like fake joy which always bothers me a bit.

The gentle touch with which Chambers handles her material makes the book's loftiest philosophical aims feel grounded. I think you’ll bring a lot of perspective to the people we meet, even if all they do is see you walk by. These have quickly become my favorite moments, when reading begins to feel like overhearing a confession, a pouring out of inarticulable truths that can only emerge when you finally find someone with whom you can just sit on the ground and breathe. A Prayer for the Crown-Shy’ picks up immediately after the conclusion of Book 1 with Dex and Mosscap leaving the wilderness and beginning their journey across the human occupied places of Panga.

It’s not like I ever doubted the Awakening happened, but meeting you made it real in a way no museum ever could.

I’m glad this series brings hope and happiness to fans, but I’m clearly too much of a cynic to be the correct audience. Mosscap’s questions, concerns and view points send their thoughts in unexpected directions and I must say that the characters’ inner process are just as interesting as the external events.
