hello I love your book I've read it so many times, I didn't even know there was a second book until I read the tiny little print in the back of the book and I was so exited, I read it and it was just as good as the first one!

You can't imagine how much it means to hear that Varjak is one of those books for you, and has stayed with you through your life. They were eating supper, munching and crunching from rows of china bowls, neat and regular: bowls of food, bowls of water, round white saucers of full-cream milk. So I would ask you all to use your imaginations when thinking about these questions, and whatever your answers are, I think they are as valid as mine! I remember going to those places with a notebook to try and capture details that might help bring the scene to life. He is often bullied by his older brother Julius because of this, who taunts him by saying that the Contessa loves some of them and that they have hardly seen her at all - ever since "that funny-looking Varjak" was born.

Father, Mother and Aunt Juni were dozing in the late afternoon light that trickled through the thick green windows.
