Wim Pauwels is the Finnish founder and brainchild of Taiga Tools. Obsessed with detail and accuracy, Wim has reworked and improved upon a number of existing tool accessories used in conjunction with established brands, believing that users of the tools deserve more robust and accurate attachments for the equipment they have invested in. This is no different in the case of the Taiga Precision Rail Square. I've run into this before (could have been the same rail,it has now been sprayed with red paint), the guys had not. They thought it was them. It wasn't. I love the little slide out tab that supports it on the work. I’ve yet to use any of the actual dog holes as I don’t use a dog system but it’s nice to have them there. Yeah, I seem to have a lot of issues with the little cam levers coming loose. When you engage them (at least on Makita rails this is) they don’t really have much travel as such, like you expect from a cam that comes in gradually. They’re just…on, or off.NEW! Slide the rail square on to the rail and pull square with your thumb in the circular recess. Secure the rail to the square firmly in place, by gently tightening the thumbscrews. Yeah, this was my experience. I bought a Taiga rail square (since gone out of business I think) which came with calibration certificates up the wazoo, but I found that accuracy/repeatability just wasn’t there (was trying to make a couple of floor cabinet carcasses). I don’t think it was the fault of the particular square, I just don’t think they can be that accurate/repeatable for anything other than short cuts. Previously I had made my own plywood square which has been incredibly accurate. I have attached to a Benchdogs fence to that one, allowing repeat cuts out to 1.2m but it is a bit cumbersome. No need to measure and mark both ends, no clamping required and no wasted material from misaligned cuts!

Consequently, the slightest vibration such as using the saw, or putting the rail against the wall temporarily between cuts, will very often cause them to come loose and the rail can slide off onto the floor, or sometimes I’m all set up ready to make the cut and I notice one is loose. Offering safe and perfectly straight power tool guidance, a splinter guard for splinter free sawing and a protective surface, all of our guide rails will allow you to achieve precise cuts without the need for rework. I don’t think you can ever completely trust a rail square as to me, there are so many tiny things you can do to affect it, over a distance. Threaded M6 accessory mounting holes enable connection to the TSO Parallel Guide System and Angle Accessory Two support tabs ensure maximum cutting accuracy, as the rail square and rail are well supported on the workpiece – preventing hanging and flex.

This meant more rails added to the mix. Well, one of them (a 1080) is off at the entry end by a few thousanths of and inch.
