To be honest , a bit like reading a porn story, i understand that Horace was only a young man at the time of WW2 but way way too much unnecessary sex , one can only think that if he'd spent a little less time talking about his sexual conquests, the story would be more believable, as it is, it lacks a bit in the reality department. In doing so he offered hope to his comrades, and defiance to one of the most brutal regimes in history. The number of sex scenes in the book was tedious (there was A LOT considering he was a PoW) and they got very boring and very stale, very quickly. In this book, the brunt of the focus is placed on his time spent as a prisoner of war in a German camp, and his hundreds of successful attempts to sneak out and meet with his love interest, and then back in with anything to help his comrades. It wasn’t an entirely uncommon practice to bunk out of prisoner camps the way he did, and for the most part they weren’t the tightly-guarded fortresses depicted in movies.Along with my partners at Monarch Media, Alan and Vicky, and our producing partner on the project, Bernie Goldmann, we believe Jayson Rothwell has done an incredible job of adapting Ken Scott’s book into a ground-breaking and beautiful musical. To me, this is a historical novel seeped with horrors and sex, but the overall story is pretty amazing.

by Horace Greasley is yet another fascination World War II memoir, detailing a young British man’s journey into the hell of the Wehrmacht and the bits of solace he found along the way. Horace broke out of the camp then crept back in again under the cover of darkness after his natural urges were fulfilled. A good underlying true life POW story spoilt by misogynistic fantasy and overly descriptive shagging scenes. I completed this book as it was a book club challenge, but never have I forced myself on through a book so unwillingly.Ugh, this story is presented in a way that makes it a slog to get through, and I haven’t even mentioned the sophomoric sex scenes that are too numerous and over the top graphic.
