Tense and rambunctious, wildly entertaining, and at a breakneck-paced, Mark Greaney splendid Burner is pure storytelling and it was a pleasure from beginning to end! That these easter eggs are meaningless and even befuddling to new readers might make sense in terms of costs and benefits. This results in a brilliant collection of scenes as the various sides engage in elaborate tradecraft to try and outsmart the others, resulting in a particularly epic extended sequence on a train. The focus on tradecraft is a particularly fascinating element to the entire story, and you must love the multiple scenes that show the characters utilising their training to outmanoeuvre their opponents.Greaney has a lot of pages to fill in his third solo Tom Clancy novel (after 2014's Tom Clancy: Full Force and Effect). What ensues is a job offer to one of the disowned assets that she’s spent years trying to hunt down while potential damning Russian money funneling schemes are about to be broadcasted to the world. The amount of emotional depth that was shown in his character was phenomenal and thoroughly thought out. Gentry is on the hunt for truth while after years of running has him looking over his shoulder every bit of the way.

Caught between a GRU hit squad and CIA assassins, the unlikely trio must stay ahead of their pursuers if they hope to finish the mission, assuming they don’t end up killing each other before then. Any thriller reader would enjoy the pace of this book , and the plot is actually following current events between Russia and Ukraine and the position the United States may be in with their war. The discussion about bribes to influential westerners is pretty interesting, especially as it seems to be a dig at certain politicians and news reporters, and it ended up being a very fascinating plot focus.He's stolen records from the Swiss bank that employs him, thinking that he'll uncover a criminal conspiracy.

Greaney is masterly at writing action, with scenes like a car chase on a winding, hilly road in Saint Lucia coming alive in cinematic fashion.

Power invites the kind of corruption that has always plagued Gentry, both during and after his tenure with the CIA. Ever since Back Blast (2016), he’s been operating on another level, constantly elevating his series by mixing high-flying action with a smooth prose and smart, tight plots that usually have at least one twist that’ll catch even the most experienced readers off guard. It’s not a bad gig, sinking the ships of rich Russians for a little side cash, especially with the Russian invasion of Ukraine playing out—but Gentry is used to a little more danger. Replacing Greaney will be novelist Marc Cameron, previously known for his Jericho Quinn series of thrillers.Angela is forced to grow up a lot in this book, especially when manipulated by her superiors, and it looks like Greaney has some interesting plans for her in the future. Greaney has never shied away from referring to current conflicts, politics and events, and in Burner he goes for the most infamous current conflict in a big way by strongly featuring the Russian invasion of Ukraine. I protagonists are forced into a series of deadly battles on a tight timeline to achieve their goals. This addition to an excellent series has well developed characters, a fast moving plot and a lot of action. The Netflix adaptation of The Gray Man, staring Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans, and Ana de Armas, was released in July, 2022.
