Switching to Filmmaker mode still leaves the energy saving “Eco” setting at Auto. This adjusts the brightness of the image depending on the amount of ambient light, and unfortunately, turning it off isn’t intuitive. You’ll need to go to All Settings – General – OLED Care – Device Self Care – Energy Saving – Energy Saving Step, and switch this setting from Auto to Off. You’re now free to set the overall brightness of the Filmmaker mode to your personal preference. Percentage luminance drop at 35 degree horizontal angle from the centre of the screen with 100% white output Watching No Time To Die in HDR10, the good news remains. While less obvious than with Dolby Vision content, the C2 is still an even better performer than the G1, with the degree of the upgrades varying somewhat based on the selected preset. In the Standard mode, it can be hard to spot differences between the two sets, but look hard and they’re there – patches of sky seen out of the windows of Madeleine’s icily depressing childhood home at the opening of the film are a smidge brighter, as are the reflections off the Mediterranean Sea in which she’s floating in the following scene. All of this does come at a higher starting cost than the C1. So the obvious question to ask is, does the LG C2 justify the extra outlay?

LG has slightly struggled to strike the right balance with the sound of its C-series TVs but the C2, while still not perfect, is certainly a step in the right direction. Magic Tap feature compatible with NANO75 and above, and requires NFC enabled Android phones using Android 7.0 or later. Home Wi-Fi and LG ThinQ app required. In terms of animation, an episode of The Venture Bros displays fewer motion artefacts such as jerky movements or blurriness with fast zooms. A stream of the Miami GP highlights on All 4 and LG’s TruMotion produces a more stable, less jittery image – this is a step up from the C1.

The Filmmaker mode offers highly accurate images for HDR10 and HLG, while the Cinema mode does the same for Dolby Vision, and Cinema Home offers Dolby Vision IQ with Precision Detail. LG claims it is the only manufacturer that currently has sufficient processing power to offer this additional feature, which pulls out greater contrast and detail from Dolby Vision content.

Coudl I get a superior picture from G2 for more? Yes.If you buy gear based on a pricepoint, then yes, absolutely. We incorrectly claimed that the LG C2 OLED supported IMAX Enhanced in an earlier version of this review. Even though the aspect ratio is adjusted, IMAX enhanced refers to both video and audio enhancement. Since LG TV's do not include a DTS decoder, the C2 OLED doesn't fully support for IMAX enhanced content. These differences are most pronounced in the Dolby Vision Bright mode, which is the one to use if there’s ambient light in the room or if you simply appreciate the punchier approach (which we do), but the C2 is also the better TV when the even truer Dolby Vision Dark preset is selected, maintaining the authenticity of the image while revealing more shadow detail and providing brighter highlights. Very occasionally it’s possible to see that a tiny bit of fine detail and subtle shading is being washed out by the C2 in the very brightest parts of the image (some clouds for example) but this is otherwise all gain and no pain. As a whole, it’s a noticeably more dynamic and enticing image.The smart TV platform hasn’t been given a huge overhaul compared to its predecessor, but it does come with some new, family-friendly features that make it easier for everyone in the household to enjoy a personalized experience. True purists will be pleased to read that these improvements remain even in Filmmaker Mode. It’s by no means a huge upgrade, but the C2 is definitely brighter, sharper and more contrasty. It’s a great picture made a few percent better.

I see what you're saying, but if you read the review again WHF says the C2 is a better TV than last year's still more expensive G1. So in that respect it's still good value. Moving onto a regular 4K stream of Spider-Man 2 on Netflix gave us the chance to try out the TV’s native viewing modes. While the contrast levels are a little less pronounced than they are with Dolby Vision content, you’re still getting the benefit of the OLED panel’s self-emitting pixels and the picture looks very clear and bright as a result.Together, Dolby Vision IQ and Dolby Atmos audio ensure even more immersive entertainment, providing awe-inspiring drama to every genre.
