So when you have the helmet on, do you have to project a little bit more, just to make sure that people can hear you? I did get to work with Bryce again, and that is one of the highlights, always… As a creator, as a fan of her pedigree, as a fan of the work I’ve been able to [reach] that she’s brought me to, working with Bryce is one of my favorite things in the world. And I think that a couple of days that we worked together, I might’ve been less than happy with something else that was going on, on another unit, on another episode – I stopped taking pride in it, but I do take a lot of dignity in wanting to tell Mando’s story, and wanting it to be honest and not shortcut so we can do this and that or whatever. It matters to me, he matters to me – his creed, his physicality, my acting within it, even though Pedro’s gonna voice over anything that I’m doing – those things matter to me. If you’re gonna take the time to hire me and pay me, I want to do what we’ve done from the beginning, and Lateef and I working together, and when he doesn’t feel safe… He and I take responsibility for Mando, and what he’s doing, and it means a lot to us. So I was in a hot place, and Bryce, all she has to do is smile and it’ll change your world. You can’t help but be like ‘Okay, I gotta make a choice – I can fight the fact that she wants to create and live in somewhere where I’m not, or I can participate and go for a ride.’ And her episode is gonna be a ride, bro!”

But then I worked with Isaac, and his style of working is 100%, he knows what he wants when he walks in, and he doesn’t mess with it unless it’s not what he wants. He very much understood the pre-vis that we had, and that’s what he was expecting, and that’s the story he was trying to tell… The way he worked was so confident, and he understood what he wanted, and he got it, and he didn’t dilly-dally, and it was really impressive because this is his first time in something so CGI-based… And he was able to translate that, I thought, incredibly well into a 30-minute piece.” The cast of The Mandalorian season 3 is led by Pedro Pascal as the titular character, Din Djarin. Pascal voices Mando and portrays him sans helmet, while a body double actor takes on the full suit. For Mandalorian actor Brendan Wayne, there’s a clear distinction between the helmet being on or off. “When it’s Din Djarin [the character’s actual name], that means the helmet’s off,” he says. “I’m never gonna be that guy. I’m this other part.”If it's the latter, Bo-Katan may not be entirely happy about that. She asked for his help, but more as her underling/foot soldier. Bo-Katan covets that Dark Saber —but does she want it so much that she'll duel Din Djarin for it? When you saw the first episode for the first time and saw your movement coupled with Pedro’s voice, what was your reaction? Recently, Wen told Digital Spy that she's unsure of if she will be in The Mandalorian season 3, stating "We're so secretive about everything, right? We don't call the shows, the shows. The contracts are always under different names. The show is under different names." So in the episodes that have aired, can you tell whether it’s you onscreen in the costume versus someone else?

I will say, Yes, I can. Will I tell you which places? No. But if you were at my house, hanging out with us, my kids will tell you, and they’ve been right 100 percent of the time. At the screen test. I’d kind of suspected, because my brothers and I had every action figure, but Boba Fett was mine. Just the fact that I got to put it on was enough, because it meant that much to me as part of my childhood. And as far as the episodes ahead go, Wayne explained that his favorite in the season hasn’t aired yet, and he also hyped up the finale: And then I tried it on and somehow it fit, even though it was initially, I think, created for somebody a different size — six-foot-five, and I’m six feet. But I have a small head, so the helmet fit perfect. Then, as this process went on, they started taking pictures of me with a blue screen around me, and I thought, This is a lot for trying on an outfit for somebody. Barry Lowin joined shortly after filming started on the first season. Lowin – a former gymnast and long-time performer with Cirque du Soleil – also grew up a Star Wars fan. His dad used to wake him up using a Darth Vader “I am your father” voice. Carl Weathers is an idol of mine and I got to meet him, and, at one point, I have to run up into the ship chasing him, and he gets the drop on me from behind. And they didn’t like the way I was going up into the ship, and I was like, “Guys, I’m going up the ship and I can’t see the ramp until I’m on it, and it’s pretty much pointing straight up.” So it’s not easy. But they’re like, “Yeah, but we need you to have your swagger.” And then Carl said, “How would your grandfather do it?” And I was like, “You know, he’d lead with his shoulder — he always led with his shoulder,” and then Carl said, “Goddamn it then. Lead with your shoulder and stop thinking about it.” And I thought, Oh my God, Carl Weathers just channeled my grandfather. And sure enough, I did it and they were like, “That was perfect. Excellent! Moving on!” And I looked at Carl and he could not stop laughing. One-hundred percent. I was classically trained — when I became an actor, my mom said, “If you’re gonna do it, you better know everything because they’re gonna expect you to, because you’re the Duke’s grandson. I don’t care how many years ago he died. This is what they’re going to expect.” So I learned how to dance, I learned how to fence, and I also learned how to project. Yeah, we kind of kept in touch a little bit. And then this came up, and it was very mysterious. I got a call from my agent. He was like, “Hey, I need you to do this favor. You need to go try on this costume.” I’m like, “Do I get paid?” And he was like, “Yeah, you’ll get paid to go. I can’t tell you anything about it; it’s super top secret.” But it’s Hollywood. A Pepsi commercial I did was super top secret. So I’m unimpressed. Then I pull up to [Legacy Effects] and go inside. And oh my God, that’s a Terminator. They have everything that I grew up dreaming about and, at the same time, all the new stuff. Oh my God, it’s Thor’s hammer.I remember at one point I thought to myself, Are you a high-maintenance asshole right now, telling everybody how wrong their stuff is? What on God’s green earth is compelling you to keep talking? But I kept doing it, and they were great about it. I felt like we were working together. I felt like I was a part of the process, where you don’t usually get that. Also, we were working on the scene where all the Mandos come to save me after I’ve stolen the baby, and I say to Carl something along the lines of, “Here’s the deal: I’m going to take the kid, I’m going to get on the ship, and I’m going to get out of here — and you’re going to let me.” And Carl literally had to call cut, and he looks at me and he just starts laughing, saying, “If there was ever any question whether you’re John Wayne’s grandson or not, that just alleviated it.” I know he wanted to be more involved and at least try playing the character a little more,” says Lowin about Pascal in season two. “But I guess maybe to our credit – my, Brendan, and Lateef's credit – you can make something look easy that’s not. I’ve had to do both – acting where I’m using my face and voice, and acting where I’m not using my face and voice. You have to convey the same emotions without those things, with lots of subtle movements. I remember Pedro saying he was frustrated because he didn’t know how to act and perform without using his face. I think the more he attempted to try it, the more respect and appreciation he had for us playing the role.” That was what this whole process was: learning how to radiate instead of show. It was this constant take a deep breath and radiate.
