Agreed, wonderful pressing. Full sound with a lot of weight to it. Everything is clear and well balanced. It's also incredibly clean. I got a fresh sealed copy but there was literally zero pops. The cumulative approach is at its clearest in “10 Miles High.” Cut from the CD version of the album to trim minutes off its already elephantine running time, the song had previously been relegated to B-side status, appearing only on the relatively obscure original vinyl edition, where both space and pacing permitted it to remain. Heard it in its proper context at last, “10 Miles High” comes across as the emotional and sonic key to the whole album: titanic in scale, unpredictably varied in its dynamic range, and absolutely annihilating in its despair and rage. a b Spitz, Marc (May 2005). The music itself sounds awesome. Or it could, to be more exact; Sadly, the pressing quality is a real dissapointment and at times severly impairs the listening experience (audio/vinyl): As my time on the album spanned over 2 years, it is difficult to describe a typical day, since that varied as we progressed. At the beginning, though, there were different types of days depending on how Trent was feeling. At this stage a lot of time was spent writing and creating songs. Obviously it is impossible for anybody to be in songwriting mode every day without going stale. So, to keep creativity up and vary things a little, we would have 'Art Days,' as they were referred to. This would involve forgetting about being tied down to creating within the usual 'song' structure and Trent would do anything that his mood took. Good examples of some things that came out of that way of working was "La Mer" and "The Day The World Went Away". The Fragile' remained my favorite album since I first heard it, but now it has a successor. I absolutely love this version, which I now consider the 'definitive' version. Honestly, I've never been that partial to Reznor's style of lyrics, and I think this is a great vessel for letting the music really speak for itself. Even if some of the newly unearthed material occasionally sounds like unfinished songs that they might have given up on halfway through, the treatment they are given here doesn't make them feel like it, it's all very cohesive. Plus, some of the new instrumentals are really, really fascinating.

The tour featured increasingly large production values, including a triptych video display created by contemporary video artist Bill Viola. [29] In one interview, Alan Moulder stated that the album started out with 173 different pieces or musical ideas, and the cover of Gary Numan's " Metal" had been completed when the album sessions began. [7] He also stated in a different interview that 120 songs were recorded [8], so it is likely that some of the 173 pieces were merely seeds of inspiration that were never developed into anything usable. The orginal large amount of song ideas was evidently whittled down before they even reached the demo stage, as Reznor stated in a 2000 interview that he demoed 47 songs, which he then chose from when deciding which ones to write lyrics for.
