Dreams and epiphanic visions - Jung recounts a number of visions prophesying the world wars as well as his own future work. He claims an uncontrollable compulsion to record these dreams, though he never did before. Similarly, a number of the passages Jung claims are actually the spirit of the depths or his soul speaking through him as a medium. It begins as an entertaining, well-crafted businessman's memoir--who I was, how I became this wheeling-dealing investor and so on, an unusual story of its own--but the floor drops like the first plunge of a roller coaster. He knew that Russia was the wild west at that moment in history, but had no idea the level of corruption not only among the oligarchs but within the government as well--something he never accepted until it opened in a very big deep dark and scary hole in front of him. Understanding: Correct spelling reduces confusion. Spelling is similar to athletics in certain ways. It is the responsibility of the passer to ensure that the receiver really receives the ball. Likewise with spelling. The reader of such material will grasp it if you write clearly and correctly.

After many years of careful deliberations, the estate of C. G. Jung finally decided in 2000 to allow publication of the work, and thereafter began preparations for the publication. From the very little I know of Bill Browder he seems like a good guy, very bright, excellent businessman, principled, brave, loyal, gives very good interviews, but not a talented writer. If this book had been written by a professional writer uninvolved with the events of the book it would have been solid. As a writer interested in the use of dreams and personal narratives, as well as having taken this process to my own experimental, revelatory, self-mythology and understand the danger of attempting vs. the incredibly potent imagery that can come out of such a process, I suspect the Liber Novus may have far reaching cultural effects that we could only begin to imagine.

The main reason I am posting anything here is to have a note of this talk that he gave at Oxford University. It is well worth a listen. (It's not as long as it looks - the bulk of it is Q & A....) He has an excellent sense of how to tell an anecdote, holding the reader spellbound until the punch line.

There are some things you can change about yourself and something you can’t. What can you change? What can’t you change? Red Notice is Nonfiction but it reads like a Robert Ludlum or Daniel Silva action novel. Truth is often more interesting than fiction and Bill Browder's journey proves that. I could not put this book down, I needed to see how Bill Browder's story ended(its not the end, I know he wrote a follow-up). This book has everything Spies, romance, murder, political intrigue and corruption, corruption, corruption!
