The app also has a "Find My Headset" feature, which you might think would be useful. Unfortunately, it can only activate a tone if the headphones are still on and connected to your phone, and I usually turn them off when I'm not wearing them. The microphone is decent, and allowed me to sound intelligible while making dentist appointments or fending off phone bank callers asking for donations. As for sound quality, I think most people will be pleased. For a Bluetooth headphone, the Fit sounds fairly detailed and delivers a decent amount of bass, particularly for an "open" earbud. However, that bass performance will dip in noisier environments (if you can't seal out ambient noise it will compete with your music and the bass takes the biggest hit). Also, the headphones do leak some sound. The headphones come with a neoprene smartphone armband which, when reversed, doubles as a storage pouch for the headphones. While this is a useful inclusion, there’s no way to see or operate your smartphone’s touchscreen when it’s in the armband. Electronic music in higher pitches, like CHVRCHES, did sound a little muddy, and Haim’s fast snare drums sounded tinny. Still, Kacey Musgraves’ high, pure singing in “Oh, What a World” was still ethereal. And the sound was big enough, with a big enough bass presence, that I found myself dancing to Weezer while walking my dogs.Also, the buttons are quite easy to discern even if you have bigger fingers, so you know what to press. There are no special accessories apart from a soft mesh storage bag which is useful for portability but doesn’t offer a lot of protection. These things are also sturdy af. You can twist the band round any which way and they’ll survive, so you also shouldn’t worry about throwing them into a gym bag with your other gear. Plantronics has also kept them compact (well, by over-ear standards at least) meaning they a) fold up nicely, and b) are unlikely to get in the way even if you’re lifting weights overhead or throwing your arms up during a HIIT session.

These are tough and reliable, but also cleverly designed to suit the gym just as well as the commute. In that case, we recommend the AfterShokz Aeropex, a set of bone-conduction headphones that keeps you aware of your surroundings by leaving your ear canals wide open.
