The 512-G signals a new generation of dash cam. We’ve listened to consumers who noted that crystal clear image quality on an in car camera is vital. Having added a host of new features to ensure that the 512-G stands head and shoulders above others in the market, we believe the 512-G will be the best dash cam on the market for some time to come. “Glare and reflection can result in poor and distorted footage no matter how good your dash cam. But the polarising filter in the 512-G completely eradicates this problem completely – the first, and only dash cam in world to do so.” Looping length can be set at two, three or five minutes. There’s a time-lapse option with durations of three minutes or two hours between frames, which are rather strange choices. It might have been useful to have a few options in-between. You can turn on a parking mode, where the 512GW will sit in standby mode and record two minutes of video every time it detects physical movement. It’s best to remove the microSD card and use a card reader on your PC or Mac. You can drag and drop the files, or use Nextbase’s Replay 3 program. This allows you to see the video along with all the other recorded GPS and G-sensor data, plus your location on the map. It works well, and can provide extra evidence, if needed, about a collision. Verdict You can see both front (above) and rear footage (below) that was recorded by the Nextbase 512GW and GWRC at the same time. The footage is very dark when driving into the sun in the morning, which makes it tough to recommend in some ways. Although, when it isn't so bright (when driving through the village in the above video), the footage is a bit lighter and you can see details like reg plates.

Red (!): this is for a customer to press when they have witnessed something they want to be protected.The 522GW is the top spec, updated incarnation of the 512GW in Nextbase's brand-new dash cam range - the Series 2. As the GW in the name suggests, the 522 features GPS and WiFi - just like its predecessor - as well as a number of other impressive features. Resolution is 1440p @ 30fps with a 140-degree viewing angle and a built-in polarising filter. At a faster frame rate (60fps), resolution drops to 1080p. Alternatively, it’s possible to record Full HD (1920 x 1080) at 60fps. You can also choose Full HD and 720p at 30fps. At the top resolution, video is captured at 27Mbits/sec, so a 16GB memory card will be enough for 77 minutes of footage before the recoding loops to replace the oldest files with new ones. As usual, there’s microSD for storage, but none is supplied in the box – which is a shame for a dash cam that is well out of the budget territory. Anyone know why my 512 GW fills my protected folder with unwanted video files. I understood the files that went into this protected files folder were either the result of some sort of collision, or the driver pressing the button on the on the dashcam. That's a good point Sam re false positives. I had previously turned mine off; potholes, speedbumps, etc trigger protection.

Then the Dash Cam will be visible as a removable drive on your computer. If you go into My Computer (Windows) or Finder (Mac) you will be able to see the Dash Cam listed as a drive, usually called NEXTBASE. Only dash cam to have innovative polarising filter to completely remove windscreen glare and reflections. There is some bad news, though. With it attached, the front camera is limited to 1080p recording too, rather than its maximum 1440p. And bitrate drops from roughly 33Mb/s to just 12, matching the rear camera’s recorded video. That’s likely because the 512GW’s processor can’t handle the front camera at the highest quality plus the rear camera’s feed. And there’s a noticeable drop in quality, as you’d expect. I’d recommend using a separate Camera such as the 122 or 222 on the rear windscreen. You will need a separate power supply and SD card as it will not connect to your XXX, but can be used as a Camera facing rearwards. The prices are comparable with the Series 2 Rear Cams, and if you’d like to keep using your XXX, is the most viable option.Navigating through the various settings menus is simple since everything on-screen is clearly labelled. There are plenty of things to adjust, including settings for the frame rate and resolution, as well as switching audio recording on and off or setting a number plate for the camera car. In the end I got a replacement battery and swapped it over myself - it was fairly straight forward and the camera is now working correctly.
