Do you have any suggestions for improving fences on small (10in) bandsaws such as the Lumberjack I think you trialled a couple of years ago? This fence mounts to most 14" (356mm) band saws right out of the box and can be modified to fit many others by drilling a single hole in the aluminum mounting rail. I started trying to more or less center the blade on the tyres but couldn’t move the lower bearings back enough with this configuration. I bought this to upgrade my BS350S fence kit, because I was fed up with swapping the whole fence arrangement over to the right hand side of the blade every time I wanted to tilt the table to make angled cuts on board edges. I also preferred to bolt it in place as a single unit to get the alignment just right which then made it just a little more awkward to hacksaw through for a slot to remove blades through. cut into a log support (that is the initialization every band sawyer has to do at some point, I’ve learned…) causing the blade to dull. I have an older bandsaw that I love, but due to the location of the slot for the blade, precludes mounting a rail for a fence. Two 24" lengths of 3/4" thick x 1-1/2" tall Double Track aluminum extrusions serve as the front and rear fence rails.There's always just a little bit of drift that prevents you from getting precise cuts even when you are using a fence. To maximize the pivoting action, the front of the fence needs to be spaced out from the end of the runner. I can also assure you many of the engineers have only worked with their monstrosities on paper or a computer simulation. Mine came with a slightly different aluminium fence profile than the one shown in the pictures above (It looks like the one on the Laguna picture). Kregg also offers a tall fence add on adapter for free hand re-sawing but I have never used mine because it is to tall to fit my 14″ bandsaw and I prefer to re-saw with the fence.

With carbide blades being available for similar money to a standard blade these days, or soon enough if ya just can't speak Chinese, seems that there maybe a market for this sorta thing on this side of the pond soon. I made it with plywood left over from another project, and it took me ~1 hour to build and document it. I decided on the Kregg Precision fence as a replacement knowing that their fences were not designed for European bandsaws but more the US bandsaws like Jet, Delta, Rigid, Craftsman and others. Hey Paul, There are a lot of people on my side of the pond fighting and clawing to keep from having to use the metric system. I didn’t learn much about the metric system until I went to work for a BMW, Jaguar, Subaru and British Leyland dealer.Once everything was assembled, I took a block plane and gave a few swipes over the bottom edge of the fence, to make absolutely sure it was flush with the base. I’ve used imperial for so long even though I’m born in a metric world that I think only in imperial. For me, this fence is strictly functional, so I just cut out a rough box - but you could make it look nicer by cutting out a smooth organic shape, perhaps with rounded corners. It's a really simple design, but it is stout and square, and has already helped me get some good re-saw cuts for a couple different projects.

Delta bandsaw, I figured it would be used only for curved work, like rough-cutting cabriole legs, so I didn’t bother purchasing a fence for it.

I'm resawing the wood so I can "book match" the sides of the box, making it look like all sides of the box are one continuous grain pattern. I usually just clamp a piece of wood for a fence when I need it, but the magnetic fence sounds like a great idea. I do find it difficult to understand just how opposed the majority of Americans are to the metric system even though I do use both in my day to day work.
