Of all the colours and finishes available, we tried Gloss White, which is a beautiful choice for both traditional and modern kitchens. The aerosol paint was very easy to apply, and the fast-drying formulation helped us finish work in a jiffy. Touch dry in 20 minutes, the product can be recoated after one hour and it hard-dries in 24 hours. Melamine and MDF are two popular kitchen cabinet materials. Inexpensive and aesthetically pleasant, these two materials have literally invaded most kitchens, replacing the nobler wood or its more expensive alternatives. Weaker than hardwood, melamine and MDF need more maintenance and are harder to redecorate with paint. The paint itself is top quality – hard wearing, ultra-low VOC and leaves a flawless, professional-looking finish. It’s available in a matte or semi-matte finish and in an almost infinite colour range. While it looks a little pricey at first, this is probably one of the most affordable ways to refresh your kitchen without compromising on quality, providing you don’t already have all the equipment. Some food items may stainthe product, remove any spills immediately to stop this or minimize theeffect. Not suitable for use on a bath or any surface regularly immersedin water. Temperature at time of application and during drying should begreater than 10°C. Now, let that dry (do 2 coats if it needs it) and then look at it over the course of at least 2 days. Look at it in morning, day, and evening light. Look at it with the lights on and the lights off.

A huge chunk of the job is the preparation. First, remove all the drawers and handles on the cabinets, so you don’t splatter paint all over them. If that’s not an option, use masking tape to cover them. Although it might look like your cabinets are ready to meet the paint roller, it’s worth cleaning them thoroughly. The sheen of paint is how shiny or dull it is. There is an entire spectrum (see below) ranging from completely matte to glossy, and everything between. I prefer a satin sheen because it’s the perfect balance of not too dull or too shiny. Shiny paint can appear plastic or fake, but something too matte won’t wear well over time against grease and oil.

On the market, there are many furniture paints that claim they adhere perfectly and provide an exceptional coverage on un-primed surfaces. We’ve tested some of them and they did provide great results. However, we still recommend priming the surface for the simple reason that paint will need less maintenance and will resist longer. It doesn’t get muddy tones from the gray undertones but feels less bright because of them. It is a really cheerful color and would work well on walls in many rooms. Sanding the surface is the only preparation required. The product adheres well to melamine and MDF without priming and is suitable to use on cupboards, furniture, doors, and more. Retro kitchen furniture pairs wonderfully with vibrant reds or fluorescent hues. In such a context, chartreuse, bright green, yellow, and even purple add personality to your kitchen.
