In my first game, I found myself wishing it would take a little less time. Not a lot less, but right at the end - when it went past bedtime, and was starting to drag a little. It’s certainly true that some scenarios do mix things up a bit, but for the most part they all play very similarly with an almost identical arc of experience – clumsily explore your surroundings, fumble around in the dark, meet hideous and grotesque monsters, fight, reach a climax, and come away vaguely disappointed. A bit like a night out in Falkirk, in other words. The game is crying out for persistence of advancement – the Pathfinder Adventure Card Game, by comparison, manages this much more effectively even if it isn’t as fun an experience. You shouldn’t be surprised if you hear that some people are buying the Legend of Drizzt almost exclusively for its miniatures. Even if left unpainted, they make for a great addition to the monster collection and can be used to enrich your next D&D campaign. OK, let's be clear up front that this is not going to enhance your child's understanding of world geography, or the way plants grow. It is fantasy.

Initiative: After a hero places a monster because of exploring, it has to roll for initiative. If the hero wins, he/she can finish the actions (if they are available), and the monsters did not activate in their first turn.
