Can this man, who transformed into the very insurgent he’d been fighting, find peace and purpose, and learn to live again? Living a purposeful life, like those at the tip of the spear, you depended not only on yourself but on a team. Who is your team now?I get it. As he states in the preface, he writes in part to deal with his own demons - but where were his editors? So much of the irritating stuff is unnecessary to the story and should have been caught by anyone reading for style and content. Reese is a hero to me. Antihero to others. A man who’s loss and pain unnecessarily imposed combined with highly trained skill blur lines of what society insist are right and or wrong depending on what side you’re on. It wasn’t perfect, but it gave him a good idea of his location and was better than trying to use the stars, because of the frequent cloud cover. The yacht had a small nautical library aboard along with a modern sextant, and Reece spent his downtime teaching himself a new skill. He didn’t have a precise destination in mind, nor did he think he needed one: the terminal brain tumor he had recently been diagnosed with was sure to deliver him to the afterlife before long.

A horrible beeping sound grew louder and louder, jolting Reece awake. He sat up, drenched in sweat, blinking his eyes and looking at the unfamiliar surroundings. It took him a few moments to get his bearings. He swung his feet to the floor and ran the fingers of both hands through his hair. It won’t be long, girls. I’ll be with you soon. Maybe today. Because I started writing TRUE BELIEVER so long ago, it’s really this third novel where I’m on the “one book a year” deadline for the first time. I started it while I was finishing up the edits on TRUE BELIEVER and now I’m about to start outlining book four while beginning to edit book three. Process-wise it means I need to get much more disciplined in scheduling my day. I love every second.

The omissions makes the story more believable. It did or could have really happened. Considering how crazy the action is in the first book and show I’m now wondering … could someone in the military actually pull off each one of those tactically wildly sometimes unbelievable missions? Oh, man, we don’t hear much about that over here. My dad spent some time in Africa before I was born. He doesn’t talk about it, but he had a book on the Selous Scouts on the shelf in his study that I read in high school. Those guys were hard-core.Mr Carr wrote the story based on his special operations experience with Chris Pratt in mind to play Reese. This sequel to The Terminal List tells the tale of James Reece and how he goes about living the rest of his perceived life span as his brain tumor slowly takes him down. He’s on the lam but finds a way to ultimately survive and eke out a rewarding life with the time he has left. What he doesn’t know is that a complex terrorist plot is in the works and of course, only he can possibly make things right. Encouraged by what seemed to be the start of a new friendship and by the lubrication of the whiskey, the normally stoic Raife began talking about his upbringing in Africa, their farm in what was then Rhodesia, their move to South Africa after the war, and their eventual immigration into the United States. Now a reluctant tool of the United States government, Reece must travel the globe, targeting terrorist leaders and unravelling a geopolitical conspiracy that will have worldwide repercussions . This is where the story really takes off. How do we judge a human being who’s sacrificed so much for the United States who in turn betrayed him?

What’s past is prologue. Written by William Shakespeare in The Tempest, it is also inscribed on a monument outside of the National Archives in Washington, D.C. All this congestion must have slowed them down, he thought as he dialed a number on his phone per his instructions and waited impatiently for an answer. Well, we might as well do this right, then. Raife Hastings hadn’t hesitated when Reece requested assistance, risking everything for his former teammate without asking for anything in return.
