Like always, I started off by loading our favourite game, CS:GO. While this isn’t everyone’s cup of hot brown, it is a competitive title with fast-moving images – meaning we should get an excellent idea of the G5’s responsiveness. Looking at the physical gamut graph, you’re able to see where the Samsung G5 gamut falls short in the three respective spectrums. Overall, while the colors aren’t terrible, they’re not exactly spectacular either – but that’s to be expected from a monitor of this price point. Maximum And Minimum Brightness Users will also be able to fully adjust the color of the monitor, with options for RGB tweaking, brightness, contrast, and sharpness available. As far as stand ergonomics go, the Odyssey G5 doesn’t offer a great deal. With no height, swivel, or pivot functionality, the G5 only features tilt adjustability.

As you’d expect from an entry-level monitor, the G5 doesn’t feature the best build quality on the market. For a start, the G5 is made almost entirely from plastic – giving the display a fairly flimsy feel that is riddled with wobble. The stand fixes into the main body of the monitor but doesn’t feel robust in the slightest. That said, the bottom bezel does display some Samsung branding and triangular design features. Stand However, that’s where the positives end. The G5 continues to feature fairly limited input options, terrible build quality, and some major flaws in performance when it comes to competitive titles. Smearing, ghosting, and haloing are all visible at some stage when playing games, reducing the overall immersion the panel offers. The G5 does in fact support HDR10 content, however, with poor peak brightness, there was no real benefit to using this. The maximum brightness of the monitor was around 300 nits, resulting in a fairly weak HDR experience. This was experienced across both gaming and content consumption scenarios. We wasted no time and decided to calibrate the monitor to see just how accurate we could make it. For the best accuracy, we used the following RGB values 45/45/50.Overall, I feel Samsung has produced a decent entry-level monitor here – offering good gaming performance and decent levels of immersion when considering the price. Out of the box, the Samsung showcases a 165Hz refresh rate, OK colors, and FreeSync support – enabling the panel to produce a tear-free visual experience when gaming. So, there you have it, our comprehensive review of the Samsung Odyssey G5 (LS32AG550) – the latest refresh of their hugely popular G5. The only question left to answer is, does this monitor showcase good value for money? And it’s hard to say no.

Great colors and excellent picture quality are two of the most important factors that help create immersion when playing games or watching movies. Like all major display manufacturers, Samsung tries to provide the best color via a number of different presets found in the OSD. We’ll be testing each for color accuracy in this section – followed by panel uniformity tests, a peak brightness test, and gamut volume measurements as well. That said, when considering the price (and some of the competing alternatives), it’s hard to be too harsh on the Samsung Odyssey G5. Ultimately, if you’re looking for a budget-friendly curved gaming monitor, this could be exactly what you’re looking for. As for bezels, the G5 features a near-boarderless design that is great for increasing the feeling of general immersion when gaming or watching content. The top bezel is slightly smaller than the side and bottom bezels, measuring in at around 11mm. The side bezels measure 13mm while the bottom bezel offers a much larger 28mm profile.On a more positive note, the monitor itself does actually feel quite sturdy. During the testing process, I didn’t experience any major creaks or flexibility. The panel also features a matte anti-glare coating that is much more resistant than glass. The major seams of the monitor look to be well finished with no gaps for particle matter to build up. Furthermore, all buttons and inputs feel purposeful – something that often isn’t the case with lower-priced monitors. The bottom bezel is very similar in shape to the Odyssey G7, however, the G5 doesn’t offer the same triangular RGB zones. The wide V-shaped stand is fairly simple but does offer a cable management solution – something we’ll touch upon shortly. The rear of the monitor has been equipped with a textured striped finish that is fairly unique.
