I learned so much about London’s history and character via off-the-beaten path stops and Shaughan’s stories, told with humor and his deep knowledge. Having been walking around London since the Blitz, I have over the years collected many “Walking Guides” but this 3 Volume guide is one of the best . There is a wealth of history in the City of London much of which is, as the name of the walk suggests, hidden! From open sunny squares, to winding alleyways and quiet hidden corners, explore London and discover how 2,000 years of colourful history have shaped this city.Besides that, a big part of the information contained seems to be there just to make the books thicker, it's not that interesting. He was very entertaining, enthusiastic, interesting, knowledgeable, informative and full of fascinating facts and information. For example, how many times have you walked out of St Paul's Underground Station, en route to either your office in Paternoster Square or on Ludgate Hill, or bound for the Cathedral itself?

It doesn’t matter who leads our tour (it was Simon today), we leave knowing our city that much better. so one can refer back to it and especially for people who do not know London it will be a pleasant reference sheet. This attractive, pocket-sized book contains 20 walks between 1 and 6 miles long, each illustrated with a clear map and stunning photography. I do like this guide book to these walks though and I’m certainly eager to see things I haven’t spotted in London before, and the instructions seem simple enough, it’s just a shame there isn’t even more information on the area for those of us who maybe might miss something or would like to know even more, especially if we aren’t able to take in all of the sights when trying the walks ourselves. Shaughan was an amazing guide and despite having grown up in London I didn’t know many of the things he was telling us.
