Some versions of Fluxx add more unique cards to the mix, Cthulhu Fluxx added the infamous Ungoals where the result was all players lost unless the meta-rule and cultists were in play, along with investigator and doom points which added another level to the game without it bloating. Firefly feels like it could have done something similar and that not having some unique aspect to the game seems like this is just an additional Fluxx game with different pictures and card names which is a shame. Some cards could have had ‘reever points’ or ‘alliance points’ linked to ungoals for example. In Firefly Fluxx, there are only two creepers, Hands of Blue and Reevers, both deserve to be creepers but given the scope of who and what else could have been included to up the creeper counter. it does seem too light even for lighthearted card game ( Star Fluxx even has more than Firefly Fluxx). Having only two creepers removes the risk of getting creepers and stopping you winning but also the strategic usefulness of having them, such as the few goals that you can win with them. It also leaves a lot of the iconic bad guys out of the game for no good reason.

The Respectable Folk set includes companion Inara Serra and preacher Shepherd Book while the Wanted Fugitives set includes physician Simon Tam and the gifted River Tam. Each potential new Crew Member adds new skills and abilities to your adventures. Each Crew Expansion comes with four Crew miniatures (in both Casual and Heroic poses), two double-sided Crew cards, ten Equipment cards, two new Jobs and the box bottom also doubles as a new building.

Although again not overly thematic these do seem a little different from other versions of Fluxx. Getting’ the job done just got more interesting. The Crime & Punishment Game Booster for Firefly: The Game adds a whole heap of new troubles to the ‘Verse.The 'verse is a big place and there is always another job! Want everything together, but not have to keep 3 different boards in place beside one another, as well as making the change to the original board at Harvest? This mat is for you! Lovely quality, pleasure to play on. But on the same token, Firefly: The Game is far from a cheap, licensed tie in. While, yes, the Firefly license defiantly helps sell this game, overall Firefly is a well-designed game that’s also a lot of fun. And for me, that’s a sigh of relief. Nothing is worse than getting a game based on a subject matter you enjoy and finding out it’s nothing but a shallow box of cards with no game play to speak of ( World War Z I’m looking at you). Ship Colors and Accessories: Tweaked ship colors to better match ship cards and make them more distinct from each other. Gave every ship a color matched Haven Token, Firefly die, and compact calculator. I also included ship specific drive core cards for the older ships. Not original, but is it really fair that only the upgrade ships get this? It doesn't change game play, It just looks cool. I will also include qwek from BGG's "Unique Firefly's" variant. Which gives each ship a starting upgrade, branded for that ship. It helps even out the original ships with the shiny upgrade ships. This variant can be removed to play the original base game. But I love this small change so it will be standard. Original, non visually branded, drive cores are available to use if you really want that "original game" experience. As well as all the past expansions for the game and every promo card released, the upcoming release will also include a brand new expansion, Still Flying, that includes Monty’s Restless Sole ship, capers and job cards.
