She left the police in 2011 to work as a freelance journalist and social media consultant and is the founder of the Chipping Norton Literary Festival.Mackintosh uses Part One of the book to lay the foundation for a big reveal that the reader won’t see coming. My vision blurs and I can’t read the words, but I don’t need to—I’ve seen a version of this article in every paper I’ve passed today. We feel the reverberations of this tragedy, and watch as our story’s characters struggle to carry its weight. Jenna really grew on me over the course of the book and all in all, I did appreciate her character growth. I Let You Go is incredibly cliche and predictable, the format of the book was so familiar because a lot of thrillers seem to follow the same trend.

When the death of 5 year old Jacob comes to their attention Ray is determined to discover who did it, and why they drove away from the scene of the crime. Congratulations to Clare Mackintosh on an impressive, addictive debut, and thank you to The Berkley Publishing Group for introducing me to a new thriller favorite.

The policing aspect was a bit annoying, too many acronyms for me, and also the teaming of the DI and other detective on her way up was a bit forced. AND, despite all the great quotes I made note of, I can only use one that will give nothing away and tell you very little of this amazing debut, (but I love and believe it. I highly recommend reserving a whole afternoon to read Part Two, or you’ll end up like I did: hitting some crazy plot twists right before bed, and staying up way too late to finish it! It would be virtually impossible to survive a fall of that nature, and we know from other sections of the book (Patrick’s girlfriend, the father and son canoeists lost at sea, and the experiences shared by the local Detective Inspector) that bodies often take some time to wash up on the coast.

It turns out following an art exhibition of Jenna's art Ian, once again, becomes jealous of who Jenna is talking too.

His coping mechanism relied on focusing on the investigation—on the hard evidence before them—and not dwelling too deeply on the emotions of the people involved. But the car doesn't stop—it drives off into the night, leaving the mother to watch her son die in her arms.
