The book felt very choppy, and was hard to get invested in. I thought the premise of the story was interesting, but it just didn’t connect with me. Overall, I was disappointed.

He usually arrives by 🚕 taxi...laden with gifts and good cheer..but this time he arrives with something else...

At least he’ll have his brother there, to keep him in line… I thought I had the book nailed and the outcome sorted and was happily waiting for it all to unfold She is everything that Clare is not. A woman who self describes as one who wants to move into stuff that REALLY matters-photography, blogging, and saving the planet!The year though Clare and Dan have been struggling in their marriage so the family getaway is that much more important but after arriving to the Italian villa for the summer holiday the entire family is in for a surprise. This year Dan’s brother Jamie is not alone when he arrives but announces that the young woman with him is his newly wedded wife. From little bitchy remarks and sly references it all goes to an open war. And the war is worse when you don't know who exactly you are fighting against. Ella was so evil that she made my insides quiver, her darts of poisonous arrows found their mark. The barbs were fantastic in the dialogues. The ending was most unexpected. Sheesh I should have guessed it. But what can I say, Sue Watson had hidden it in plain sight... I soon noticed that the author liked to leave the reader hanging at the end of a chapter too, this generated questions and urged me to read on as I needed these answering. I really appreciate that we were thrown into the story straight away, there was no messing about and I loved it. At the center of the story is Clare's secret, which we don't know, initially. Neither does anyone in the family but apparently Ella knows this secret and isn't going to make Clare's life easy.

In the Authors letter at the end she says she hopes this book has taken the reader out the chaos of the current world situation just for a while and I can say 100% it did Her sister Kate is having troubles in her marriage and at work, her mother-in-law being her boss and not so pleasant a person. Things are going fine until Ella says something to Claire that could ruin Claire & the family by telling her
