Michael’s subsequent novels The Night Ferry and Shatter were both shortlisted for UK Crime Writers Association Steel Dagger in 2007 and 2008. Shatter was also shortlisted in the inaugural ITV3 Thriller Awards in the UK and for South Africa’s Boeke Prize. In August 2008 Shatter won the Ned Kelly award for Australia’s best crime novel. Bleed for Me, Michael’s sixth novel, Bleed for Me was shortlisted for the 2010 Ned Kelly Award. The characters of this book were great and the plot was good too. It moved a tad bit slow from what I like, but the story and twists were really good. There seemed to be a lot of chapters on Suzie and Nora too, Elle had a smaller share and I'd have loved to know more about the incidents from her past and what shaped her to be the person she was. The ending was fantastic. But there too, I'd have loved to more about how it came to be. Did I mention dead bodies? There are some. There’s also infidelity, manipulation, spying, and A LOT of lying. I mention this because one or more of these subjects could be triggers for some. Told from the alternating perspectives of three women, Suzi, Elle, and Nora, it is immediately apparent that all is not as it seems in the lives of these three women. Suzi, the most fully fleshed out character, is pregnant and living in fear in a remote cottage where she is the victim of domestic abuse. Nora, coincidentally or not, takes up residence in a cottage of her own across the street, and might just be the salvation that Suzi is seeking. Or will Nora's secrets, in fact, be the undoing of them all? The Other Wife is an intriguing story of not just how one wife handles the tragedy of losing her husband, but both women, altering points of view every other chapter in a manner that keeps you reading and strangely not wanting to take a side of either women.

As with What You Did, come to think of it, the men are the least well drawn, but hey I'm fine with that. Turnabout is fair play? They satisfy fun/expected character tropes, though if anything could count as a quibble with the book, it would be that. There was one specific male character I would have liked a tad less distance from, though I think perhaps the air of mystery was to contribute to dramatic tension? Those Russian women, they knew how to deal with the cold, and that was by throwing all sense of fashion out the window and essentially going out dressed as a bed”.

Nora - Nora's moved into the cottage near to Suzi, she has a devastating past she is desperate to keep secret. And a reason for why she is at that cottage. The Other Wife is a suspenseful, domestic thriller which follows the perspectives of three different women, Suzi, Nora, and Elle. They each have a story to tell, but just how closely are these three women actually connected? This is the story of them finding out about one another and how they deal with the fall out of this information about the man they both loved. Throughout I found myself wondering which wife has been betrayed the most, and who has the more difficult journey ahead. The glimpses into their respective marriages shed a fascinating light on who Richard was and also suggest why he behaved as he did.

I usually read three books a week. This one just wasn't my jam. (Again with the food!) The book had a good plot and several twists to it. I just really didn't connect with the characters. The storytelling is thoughtful and heartfelt, building towards a dramatic chain of events that results in the long-anticipated meeting of the two women.

Born in Australia in November 1960, Michael Robotham grew up in small country towns that had more dogs than people and more flies than dogs. He escaped in 1979 and became a cadet journalist on an afternoon newspaper in Sydney. For the next fourteen years he wrote for newspapers and magazines in Australia, Britain and America. As a senior feature writer for the UK’s Mail on Sunday he was among the first people to view the letters and diaries of Czar Nicholas II and his wife Empress Alexandra, unearthed in the Moscow State Archives in 1991. He also gained access to Stalin’s Hitler files, which had been missing for nearly fifty years until a cleaner stumbled upon a cardboard box that had been misplaced and misfiled. I liked that the author had the story told by both women, giving the reader a views of each side of the story, without having a "bad guy".

The Other Wife by Michael Robotham will be published in Australia by Hachette and available from 26 June 2018 (though I’ve heard the audiobook may be available already!) This book kind of gave me isolated thriller vibes too, which I love! Even though this isn’t technically an isolated thriller, there were some aspects, like the fact it was mainly set in the middle of nowhere with a high chance of being snowed in at any point, it kind of gave me No Exit vibes at points! His second novel Lost won the Ned Kelly Award for the Crime Book of the Year in 2005, given by the Australian Crime Writers Association. It was also shortlisted for the 2006 Barry Award for the BEST BRITISH NOVEL published in the US in 2005. The fact is Richard was a scoundrel, unfortunately one that Eleanor spent her life with, but as Claire realises the time was not lost: both of the women were blessed with beautiful children, and I know they wouldn’t do their lives over because of those children. (An excellent message to readers that there can be good things born from adversity) This story does not really start until you get about two thirds of the way in. The pace is slow. The story is told from multiple points of view. The chapters are headed by who is narrating them. None of the characters are likeable but I think that was the authors intention. Suzi's husband is jeal6and a control freak. When it becomes apparent how Suzi and Nora are linked, I wasnt surprised. There are plenty twists to out you off the trail. The resolution is satisfying. This is a thought provoking read.
