I had this very dilema and spent almost a month deciding what to get. I went for the launchpad with Control XL. The Control XL only works fully…with live 9.1.4. The quality of the unit is good, it`s solid enough..and the faders are long which is how I like it. The APC faders are much shorther. The Control XL with Launchpad S is a pretty awesome combo though, and both units are better quality that the new APC40 mk 2. Pro Tools will also not allow the 4th dial in the second row to be assigned to parameters as it treats the message as park of a bank select fine message. FunctionalityOk, I tried. There is a MIDI script. It only works with the Factory Preset 1, which gives you 8 knobs in total to control the Device. Due to the Pro Tools HUI implementation, the centre detent of the LaunchControl XL pan pots will not directly correspond to the centre position of Pro Tool’s pan pots. If using a Mac, please open the ‘Audio MIDI Setup’ application on your Mac, select ‘Window’ > ‘Show MIDI Studio’ and in the ‘MIDI Studio’ window, ensure the Launch Control XL is showing two MIDI ports - ‘Launch Control XL’ and ‘HUI’ as shown below: Settings for pads and buttons include the ability to set the control type (Note or CC), set the Press type to Momentary (press to turn a value on, release to set it off) or Toggle (press once for on value, press again for off).
