Stopping to question our negative thoughts, and thereby stopping them in their tracks, will lead you to your inner self. When I first selected the name of this blog as PDA Parenting (and I wasn’t sure what was the most apt title to pen) I only ever considered that I was using the technique for my eldest demand avoidant child. I mean, if people who are paraplegic can be just as happy as those who won the lottery than what excuse do I have not to be happy? Well, watch Dan Gilberts TED talk for some really fascinating studies that show this ‘synthetic happiness’ is a real thing. Putting my thoughts and ideas out into the world brought up so much self-doubt — that I was almost frozen in fear. I'd also check out Haley McGee on Instagram because there's a lot of stuff about like people pleasing here. By increasing the intensity, the duration and the felt sense of happiness in your body each time you are in a positive experience, you are essentially creating new neural circuits to build in your brain.

By focusing on these internal factors, we can take steps to enhance a positive mindset and find happiness within ourselves. The feeling of happiness is the result of being present with ourselves, with Spirit, with others and with nature. You cannot fix them and that's kind of part of this super romantic thing like that comes with that ride or die bullshit that like you can fix somebody and you can— it's a nice feeling because you feel in control. It's simple practices, really, but practices that are all deeply grounded in habits developed over hundreds of years.
