There is a lot of information about what you SHOULD do after tanning, but what about what NOT to do? Let’s have a look… If you want to really boost the tan you get from a tanning bed as much as you naturally can, go for it. Many tanning bed lotions are great for moisturising your skin during and giving you a nice dark glow. But if you want that extra-deep tan than looks like you’ve just come from a 2-week holiday at an exotic island you’ll need something with an extra punch.

Deep hydration: Sunflower, Olive and Coconut Oils provide deeper moisturisation for longer-lasting colour.Australian Tea Tree Oil: A natural antibacterial which works to prevent after-tan odours from occurring. This leaves you feeling and smelling fresh after you tanning session. This is dependent on the medicine that you have been prescribed. If a medicine is photosensitive, then it is strongly advised not to use a sunbed as these medicines will increase the skin’s sensitivity to UV light. Some medicines include antibiotics, tranquilisers, anti-diabetics, antidepressants, diuretics and sulphonamides however this list is not exhaustive. Tea Tree Oil: Ensures you feel fresh after your tanning session. This combats after-tanning odours, and fragrance lasts long after your tanning session. This depends on your skin type, you current skin colour and your tanning lotion. Usually it takes 3 to 5 sessions for someone to develop a base tan which can then be maintained with moderate repeat sessions, moisturising and tanning lotions. The actual tanning process takes 48 hours for you to see the full effect of each individual tanning session. Simply put, no! Everyone has a different preference of both make of bed and lying down or standing. The only way to know what works for you is to try them for yourself! Some people prefer Stand-up / Booth beds as you are able to move more freely and so feel less enclosed. On the other hand, some people find that lay-down beds are much more relaxing.

It is recommended that, as a minimum, you avoid UV exposure for 24 hours after a tanning session. For new tanners, this should be increased to 48 hours. If you are using tanning accelerators or bronzers, then you should definitely wait a while before you shower, so that you do not wash off any of the additions. 3. What NOT to do after tanning bed?
