This should be a major landmark book for the series, and I suppose for most people it is considering the average review on the specific book. It peels back the layers and reveals little by little how Guts grew up to be such a mentally broken and morally outraged character. I loved the conclusion 10/10 but then we transfer to this random ass story that frankly came out of fucking no where. Luca is a saint and Nina is a sinner, yet Luca brings everyone together and loves them all unconditionally. The first arc the black swordsman gets bridged and we truly see why Guts has been solidified with Anger,rage and solitude.

We were introduced to more female characters who were introduced to be saved and summarily forgotten about, and I just did not care at all for it. Miura's fame grew after Berserk was serialized in Young Animal in 1992 with the release of "The Golden Age" story arc and the huge success of his masterpiece made of him one of the most prominent contemporary mangakas.This is not the type of thing I enjoy reading, and I don't think that just because this is violent and graphic this can be considered a masterpiece, because honestly the world-building wasn't that great and I don't care for any of the characters. At this point, sensei Miura would drag you deeper to a dark and harrowing abyss where heroes, monsters, and traitors prey on each other. The previous volumes I rated more generously because I was intrigued with where everything was going and the expansion of the world, and the art is incredibly detailed. We didn't get much in term of overall evolution in the main plot with this volume, but it was nonetheless very entertaining to read. But if you can stomach it all, Berserk continues to be a horrifying, wonderful example of how good dark fantasy can be.

It shows that apostles can be victims in their own right by exploring the sad life of Rosine who only sought to escape abuse and had to resort to inhumane methods to bring this about. With Guts we know he was raped at a young age, I think the way that his story was told was very well done to show what it can do to someone.After regaining his compassion and conviction, Guts sets out to find the missing Caska, the woman who set the spark on his self-destructive quest in the first place to try and redeem his life from all the horrible things he’s been through and all the detestable things he’s done in the name of love. This arc mainly serves to set up a lot of future plot points by introducing us to the Behilit, the God Hand, and the fact that even the demonic apostles are capable of emotions and having a family.
